In their opening game, Powell defeated Donald Dumont (Falher, AB) 10-2, then won 5-4 against Caryl Sallows (Grande Prairie, AB). Powell went on to lose 11-2 against Devin Burkitt (Hudson's Hope, BC). Powell responded with a 7-4 win over Sallows in their final qualifying round match.
