In their opening game, Grassie lost 6-1 to Jeff Hartung (Langenburg, SK), then responded with a 7-5 win over Neal Watkins (Swan River, MB). Grassie won 7-6 against Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK), then won 8-4 against Scott Manners (North Battleford, SK). Grassie went on to lose 6-2 against Hartung. Grassie lost 5-3 to Jim Cotter (Kelowna/Vernon, BC) in their final qualifying round match.
