Tom Appelman (Edmonton, AB) lost 6-1 to Brock Virtue (Calgary, AB) in the Final of the World Financial Group Classic, held November 11 - 13, 2011 in Calgary, Alberta. To advance to the championship game, Appelman won 6-3 over Scott Bitz (Regina, SK) in the semifinals of the 2011 World Financial Group Classic in Calgary, Alberta; and won 6-3 over Matthew Blandford (Cold Lake, AB) in the quarterfinals.
 
Appelman finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Appelman defeated Steve Mackey (Calgary, AB) 7-2, then won 6-1 against Scott Egger (Brooks, AB) and 5-4 against Mike Libbus (Calgary, AB). Appelman won 8-3 against Matt Lemna (Airdrie, AB). Appelman went on to lose 6-2 against Virtue in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the World Financial Group Classic, Appelman take home 7.665 world rankings points along with the $3,000CDN prize. For week 13 of the event schedule, Appelman did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Appelman ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
