In their opening game, Westphal lost 5-4 to Brett Gallant (Charlottetown, PEI), droppimg another game, 6-3 to Switzerland's Peter de Cruz where Westphal responded with a 8-3 win over Steve Petryk (Calgary, AB). Westphal went on to lose 8-7 against Philippe Lemay (Trois-Rivieres, PQ) in their final qualifying round match.
