Burgess finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Burgess defeated Wisconsin's Kroy Nernberger 6-3, then went on to lose 4-2 against Brad Haight (Winnipeg, MB). Burgess responded with a 8-3 win over Mike Farbelow (St. Paul, MN). Burgess won 7-1 against Minnesota's Aaron Wald, then won 6-4 against Ken Neidhart (St. Paul, MN) in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the St. Paul Cash Spiel, Burgess take home 3.500 world rankings points along with the $2,595CDN prize.
