Carey finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Carey defeated Cheryl Bernard (Calgary, AB) 4-3, then won 7-1 against Alberta's June Campbell and 6-5 against King. Carey went on to lose 6-4 against Casey Scheidegger (Calgary, AB). Carey responded with a 6-2 win over Desiree Owen (Grande Prairie, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
