Walchuk finished 3-1 in the 17-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Walchuk lost 9-8 to Lloyd Hill (Calgary, AB), then responded with a 10-1 win over Steve Petryk (Calgary, AB). Walchuk won 8-3 against Steve Mackey (Calgary, AB), then won 8-5 against Terry Meek (Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the World Financial Group Classic, Walchuk take home 8.250 world rankings points along with the $3,000CDN prize.
