To advance to the championship game, Appelman won 6-4 over Carl deConinck Smith (Rosetown, SK) in the semifinals of the 2010 The Shoot-Out in Edmonton, Alberta; and won 8-5 over Brent Bawel (Calgary, AB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2010 The Shoot-Out in Edmonton, Alberta;
 
Appelman finished 4-1 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Appelman defeated Brock Virtue (Calgary, AB) 4-3, then won 9-4 against Aaron Sluchinski (Edmonton, AB). Appelman went on to lose 5-2 against Rob Krepps (Edmonton, AB). Appelman responded with a 7-6 win over Robert Schlender (Edmonton, AB). Appelman won 5-3 against Dean Ross (Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
