Bawel finished 5-2 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Bawel defeated Tyrel Griffith (Kelowna, BC) 5-3, then went on to lose 8-1 against Greg McAulay (Richmond, BC). Bawel responded with a 6-3 win over British Columbia's Brendan Willis. Bawel won 5-2 against Korea's Chang-Min Kim, then won 7-3 against Dean Ross (Calgary, AB). Bawel went on to lose 6-5 against McAulay. Bawel responded with a 6-3 win over British Columbia's Brendan Willis in their final qualifying round match.
