To advance to the championship game, Matchett won 4-0 over Darryl Prebble (Toronto, ON) in the semifinals of the 2009 Barrie Cash Spiel in Barrie, Ontario; and won 6-5 over Daryl Shane (Waterloo, ON) in the quarterfinals.
Matchett finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Matchett defeated Gregg Truscott (Barrie, ON) 6-3, then went on to lose 5-3 against Al Corbeil (Beeton, ON). Matchett responded with a 6-5 win over Pat Ferris (Beamsville, ON). Matchett won 5-4 against Wayne Warren (Stouffville, ON), then won 7-4 against Al Belec (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the Barrie Cash Spiel, Matchett take home 11.000 world rankings points along with the $2,400CDN prize. For week of the event schedule, Matchett did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Matchett ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
