Jeff Richard (Kelowna, BC) finished 2-3 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Richard lost 7-2 to Fengchun Wang (Harbin, CHN), then responded with a 9-1 win over Japan's Yusuke Morozumi. Richard went on to lose 7-5 against Steve Petryk (Calgary, AB). Richard responded with a 6-2 win over Korea's Chang-Min Kim. Richard went on to lose 6-4 against Randy Ferbey (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
