Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) qualified for the 2009 Westcoast Curling Classic playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 6-4 against Glenn Howard (Coldwater, ON). of the 2009 Westcoast Curling Classic in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada;
 
McEwen finished 5-2 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Jamie King (Edmonton, AB) 6-4, then won 6-3 against Terry Meek (Calgary, AB). McEwen went on to lose 7-2 against Randy Ferbey (Edmonton, AB). McEwen lost 10-5 to Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) where McEwen responded with a 6-5 win over Bryan Miki (New Westminster, BC). McEwen won 6-3 against Steve Petryk (Calgary, AB), then won 6-4 against Ted Appelman (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
McEwen earned 15.000 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the Westcoast Curling Classic. For week of the event schedule, McEwen did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. McEwen ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
