In their opening game, Fry defeated Terry Oliver (Neepawa, MB) 8-7, then won 14-5 against Gord McGunigal (Brandon, MB) and 9-7 against Rick Borland (Winnipeg, MB). Fry won 11-9 against Bob Picken (Winnipeg, MB), then won 13-4 against Howie Wood Jr (Winnipeg, MB). Fry went on to lose 7-6 against Borland. Fry responded with a 6-5 win over Gary Ross (Carman, MB). Fry went on to lose 8-6 against Ralph Wilson (Dauphin, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
