Breen with Marlee Power at third, Jocelyn Adams and Amanda Simpson on the front end take home the $1,900CDN first place cheque along with 21.158 world ranking points, while Smith receives $1,200CDN and 16.624 world ranking points for their second place finish. Starting with hammer, Breen scored 1 in the first end, added a steal of 2 in the second end, then another steal in the third end. Smith scored a single in the fourth end to trail 4-1, after Breen responded in the fifth end scoring 2. then stealing 2 more in the sixth end for handshakes and the 8-1 win. In the semifinals, Breen defeated Jill Brothers (Halifax, NS) 6-2 and Smith defeated Kristen MacDiarmid (Halifax, NS) 6-3. MacDiarmid and Brothers earned $900CDN and 12.846 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Breen defeated Mary Mattatall (Halifax, NS) 6-3, Smith defeated Robyn MacPhee (Charlottetown, PEI) 7-6 in an extra end, while MacDiarmid defeated Sarah Mallais (Saint John, NB) 5-2 and Brothers defeated Jennifer Armstrong (Fredericton, NB) 6-2. Armstrong, MacPhee, Mattatall and Mallais earned $700CDN along with 9.068 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes. Breen went 3-1 in the 15 team round robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Breen defeated Sylvie Robichaud (Moncton, NB) 6-5, losing their next game to MacDiarmid 6-2, then responded with a 6-4 win over Julie McEvoy (Halifax, NS). Breen won against Shannon Tatlock (Moncton, NB) 8-3 in their final qualifying round match to clinch a playoff berth. |
