Reid Carruthers wins Canad Inns Mens Classic


Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) wins the Canad Inns Men's Classic, defeating Glenn Howard (Islington, ON) 6-1 at the Portage Curling Club in Portage La Prairie, Canada. Carruthers with Braeden Moskowy at third, Derek Samagalski and Colin Hodgson on the front end take home the $18,000CDN first place cheque along with 60.362 world ranking points, while Howard receives $10,000CDN and 47.427 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Carruthers blanked the first end, got on the board scoring 1 in the second end, then added a steal in the third end. Howard scored a single in the fourth end to trail 2-1, Carruthers responded in the fifth end scoring 4 for early handshakes and the 6-1 win.

In the semifinals, Carruthers defeated Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB) 6-1 and Howard defeated Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) 8-6. McEwen and Koe earned $6,000CDN and 36.648 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Carruthers defeated John Shuster (Duluth, USA) 8-2, Howard defeated Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, Japan) 6-4, while McEwen defeated Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, ON) 3-2 and Koe defeated Dylan Johnston (Thunder Bay, ON) 5-3. Jacobs, Shuster, Morozumi and Johnston earned $4,000CDN along with 25.869 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.

Carruthers went 3-0 in the 20 team triple knockout qualifying round. In their opening game, Carruthers defeated Johnston 5-4, won against Shuster 5-3, and Colton Flasch (Saskatoon, SK) 6-1 in their A Qualifier match to advance to the playoffs.
