Robert Mayhew wins Bud Light Men's Cash
|  Robert Mayhew (Halifax, NS) wins the Bud Light Men's Cashspiel, defeating Owen Purcell (Halifax, NS) 8-1 at the CFB Halifax CC in Halifax, Canada. Mayhew with Chris MacRae at third, Neil Gallant and Nick Burdock on the front end take home the $1,750CDN first place cheque along with 15.077 world ranking points, while Purcell receives $1,250CDN and 11.846 world ranking points for their second place finish. Starting with hammer, Mayhew scored 2 in the first end, then forced Purcell to a single in the second end. Mayhew scored 2 in the third end, then added a steal of 4 in the fourth end for handshakes and the 8-1 win. In the semifinals, Mayhew defeated Kendal Thompson (Halifax, NS) 7-5 and Purcell defeated Chad Stevens (Halifax, NS) 6-5 in an extra end. Stevens and Thompson earned $1,000CDN and 9.154 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Mayhew defeated Greg Power (Halifax, NS) 8-2, Purcell defeated Mike Callaghan (Halifax, NS) 9-4. Power and Callaghan earned $700CDN along with 6.461 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes. Mayhew went 3-1 in the 14 team round robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Mayhew defeated Power 6-2, losing their next game to Purcell 4-2, then responded with a 7-1 win over Paul Dexter (Halifax, NS). Mayhew won against Brent MacDougall (Halifax, NS) 4-3 in their final qualifying round match. |
