Einarson wins Spider Performance Icebreaker


Kerri Einarson (Winnipeg, MB) wins the Spider Performance Icebreaker at The Granite, defeating Darcy Robertson (Winnipeg, MB) 9-5 at the Granite Curling Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Einarson with Selena Kaatz at third with Liz Fyfe and Kristin MacCuish on the front end take home the $2,100CDN first place cheque along with 26.662 world ranking points, while Robertson receives $1,500CDN and 20.949 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Robertson scored 1 in the first end, Einarson responded in the second end with a score of 2. Robertson and Einarson traded threes in the 3rd and 4th ends to see Einarson hold a 5-4 lead at the break. Einarson then added a steal in the fifth end, forced Robertson to a single in the sixth end and then scored 3 in the seventh end for handshakes and the 9-5 win.

In the semifinals, Einarson defeated Rhonda Varnes (Winnipeg, MB) 6-4 in an extra end while Robertson defeated Shannon Birchard (Winnipeg, MB) 7-2. Birchard and Varnes earned $890CDN and 16.188 ranking points for their third place finishes. In the lone quarterfinals match, Birchard defeated Michelle Englot (Winnipeg, MB) 7-4. Englot earned $640CDN along with 11.427 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.

Einarson went 3-1 in the 10 team round-robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Einarson defeated Mandy Selzer (Balgonie, SK) 6-3, losing their next game to Varnes 7-4, then responded with a 7-0 win over Robyn Silvernagle (North Battleford, SK). Einarson won against Briane Meilleur (Winnipeg, MB) 6-3 in their final qualifying round match to clinch a playoff berth.
