Sayaka Yoshimura wins Oakville Fall Classic


Sayaka Yoshimura (Sapporo, Japan) wins the Oakville Fall Classic, defeating Erica Hopson (Ottawa, Ontario) 5-1 at the Oakville Curling Club in Oakville, Canada. Yoshimura take home the $2,000CDN first place cheque along with 30.968 world ranking points, while Hopson receives $1,500CDN and 22.710 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Yoshimura scored 2 in the first end, then forced Hopson to a single in the second end. After blanking 2 ends, Yoshimura scored 2 in the fifth end to extend lead to 4-1, then added a steal in the sixth end before running Hopson out of stones in the 8th end for the win.

In the semifinals, Yoshimura defeated Anna Sidorova (Moscow, Russia) 8-2 and Hopson defeated Elena Stern (Oberwallis, Switzerland) 9-6. Stern and Sidorova earned $1,200CDN and 17.548 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Hopson defeated Jaimee Gardner (Burlington, Ontario) 5-3, while Sidorova defeated Stephanie Senneker (Kalamazoo, USA) 5-4. Senneker, Gardner earned $650CDN along with 12.387 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.
