2022 World Junior Curling Championships

Teams:

So many familiar names that may or may not also be familial. I know that Sam and Delaney Strouse are siblings. Not sure about Kim and Xenia Schwaller. Is Katie McMillan related to Hammy? Is Moa Dryburgh related to James? Is Natalie Wiksten related to Kasper?
Wikipedia does say that Karolina Jensen is the daughter of Angelina.
Axel Landelius beat Niklas Edin on his way to win Swedish Nationals. Surely he must be the favorite?

I don't know.von the men's side Benjamin Kapp looks like a strong contender as does James Craik of Scotland.
O don't know any of the women's teams enough to say anything about them.

Canada/Manitoba swept the gold medals last time (2020). It would be interesting to see how Canada will do this time.
Personally I would like to see another country win gold, and maybe even no medals at all for Canada, to pile on the pressure to fix all the broken things.
Or maybe Canadians don't care because it's May already.

I just checked Recast and they're going to have Light Coverage for this event as well. Can't confirm if it will be for all 5 sheets of every session, but that's what they did for World Mixed Doubles, so I don't see a reason why they can't do it for this event unless internet bandwidth is an issue or something stupid like that.

Also to note Anthony Petoud who will join team Brunner (aka the former team Schwaller) next season is skipping the Swiss team.

Japan's girls team is skipped by their lead. I've never seen that before.

Margaretha Sigfridsson (SWE) won (among other things) an Olympic silver medal (2014) by skipping at lead.
Kerry Galusha also skips Team Northwest Territories at lead all the way to historic playoff at 2022 Scotties.

Canada finished Day 1 at 0W-3L overall (0W-2L for men's and 0W-1L for women's).
No other country has combined 3 losses after Day 1.

After Day 3, Norway has most wins with 9W-0L combined (5W-0L men's, 4W-0L women's).
Most losses are Sweden and Canada with 3W-6L combined.

"Total losses by country" is rather disingenuous and, dare I say, stupid stat, as only seven of the thirteen nations are participating in both men's and women's competitions. Why reward Japan for not losing in the men's competition as a result of not even qualifying?

You have to realize that that poster is facebook. He posts in order to get as much reaction as possible and dissing Canadian curling is one way to get it. His other move is to post ridiculous rule changes.

If that's the case, then it's even lower using junior athletes to foist an anti-Canada agenda.

anti-Canada agenda
I admit that I was quite skeptical about the state of juniors in Canadian curling until about 15 minutes ago, but I read an article and now I think maybe the change that Curling Canada did with basically reducing the year of junior eligibility by one full year (U20 instead of U21) isn't so bad.
https://dev.theprogress.com/sports/...n-pushback/amp/
I wasn't one of the 5000 who signed the petition ( https://www.change.org/p/curling-ca...rling-in-canada ) against that change, but that article suggests that what Curling Canada did still sort of makes sense once you consider the bigger picture.
It does mean that one can win Canada and be too old to go to Worlds, which must suck for that person, even if everything else works out better for everyone else.
I wonder if any other country also basically defines their junior championship as U20 instead of U21.

Best to ignore clips...he has taken M L place in the forum and has an opinion on EVERYTHING.
The majority of his posts fit into the category of " most useless information". I'll take ML back instead of this guy anytime.

Well, with Latvia winning today and canada losing the women are officially eliminated from playoffs. With world juniors in Germany next year the women are now also in very serious danger of getting canada relegated. Wow. Never thought I'd see that but it could happen. I think they have to win their last 2 games to avoid it. Their dsc is near the bottom and while they've beaten Denmark and switzerland they've lost to Scotland and Sweden. Even one loss could see them relegated. That'd be a first

Canadian men on the bubble tonight too. If they lose to norway and switzerland beats korea I don't think there's a way in for them.

Canadian men still haven’t avoided elimination. Lots of options for Canadian men to get in but if they win and NOR and SUI win then it will come down to DSC for the last two spots, Canada is currently narrowly ahead of SUI but way behind NOR
Canada is in with a win and a single loss from sui or nor
A loss for Canada brings a lot of options into play.
Norway and Switzerland both play the top of the table teams while Canada plays lowly Sweden.

So canada got in
But I'm really hoping for a Germany v.s norway final just so we'd guaranteed have a nation win gold for the first time

Not really surprised to see swedeish men do so poorly. Once again they'll have to go through qualifying to make the world's next year. And this is the problem, as I've said before with focusing only on one team.
Sweden is very happy with edin and they should be. But in that same way they should be very, very concerned about what happens when that teams gone.they have no depth. In a hypothetical world where edin, wrana and eriksson said" alright, I've eon olympics, worlds more times than anyone ever has or likely will again , won euros, won slams, we have accomplished all we want, we're done" Sweden would be in trouble. The men would drop down ro b division in no time and it could be a while before they got back.
If they aren't worried they should be . They need to do do.etjing because edin, wrana and eriksson won't be around forever and an early /young retirement wouldn't be a surprise
Scottish and swiss women ate facing the same problem

Sweden supports 2-3 teams every year, not just one (e.g. Landelius qualified for funding for winning national).
Sweden is also one of the very few countries with a dedicated national curling academy.

It's probably true that Sweden has a depth problem, but it's not because Sweden only focuses on one team.

I did not know that. Though there's no maybe, they do have a very real depth issue. But, looking back on it I suppose they've always been a country that had 1 very good team but then not much behind them.
Though it is better with the women...and it always has been
