Could Curl Canada have made selecting an Olympic team more convoluted. A pretrial , pretrial? A preevent, event? Let's just open them up to every club champion in Canada.

I am just glancing through the PRE-Trials Direct-Entry and the Trials Direct-Entry teams. I like this idea.
At first I thought the Men's PRE-Trials Direct-Entry was a Manitoba Curling Tour event, but no, there are two SK teams in there. It is a great chance for provinces with depth to get some of their tough mature teams into the limelight. Any of these teams could have break-through year, and why not in an Olympic year? They have hardly any funding and the teams that have the government funding have a strong advantage. This format gives great curlers who can't travel "as much" a kick at the can.
The Womens' PRE-Trials Direct-Entry has a broader representation, nation-wide, but if nothing more, this event demonstrates the depth of the roaring game, here in MB.

I can follow how it works. I am having a lot of trouble deciding why it is that way. Teams with no chance have a huge influence near the end and I can't see they have any incentive to win other than pride. After the initial round robin 1st plays 4th and 5th. 2nd plays 5th and 3rd. 3rd plays 2nd and 4th. Not sure if there are any games after that.
