Why? They were doing ok. They were in a bit of a slump recently but all teams go through that…

Gunner did seem to do an awful lot of chatting over every shot and not always in agreement with Reid.

Too many alpha males on that team. Different styles completely when it came to skipping or taking orders.

Team Carruthers is excited to announce that Brad Jacobs will be filling in at the third position for the remaining Grand Slam of Curling events for the 2022/2023 season.
Brad is unable to compete in the Manitoba men's provincials and the team is continuing to look into options for the right fit for that event.
We are looking forward to competing with Brad at the GSOC Canadian Open from January 10-15, 2023 in Camrose, Alberta. Stay tuned for more from Team Carruthers.

WOW! this is big. Anyone know why he can't play in the Manitoba's Playdowns?

He probably can't play in the Manitoba Playdowns because he is playing in the Northern Ontario Playdowns with a local team.

I could be wrong but I think there is a deadline for when you need to declare which province you are playing out of (likely by registering for the playdowns), not sure if you can change your mind after that point.

Replacement players are allowed per Curl Manitoba's Competitor Guide 2022-23.

"If a player leaves a team after earning a berth, the player may be replaced and the departing player can play with another team. The departing player may not return to the original team."

The operative wording is "after earning a berth," which Team Carruthers had already earned via CTRS 2022-23 points.

But I don't think it was relevant in any case. Jacobs had already stated on The Curling Show that he is playing in the NONT playdowns. He announced it a few weeks before this team breakup came to light. It's with a local team, formed for playdowns only.

While it's always possible that discussions between Team Carruthers and Jacobs were taking place beforehand, I think that's a very, very unlikely scenario, and it's much, much more likely Jacobs had committed to NONT before ever being approached by Team Carruthers.

I am watching and checking and pondering and speculating as to who will join Carruthers for the MB playdowns in early February in Neepawa.

So, can Jacobs curl in the MB playdowns now that he is out of the NONT ones? Prob Not. Any guesses who'll join Team Carruthers starting Feb 8 at the Viterra in Neepawa? I saw that they are curling as a threesome in Phoenix this weekend.

Perhaps curling Manitoba will make an exception for them? I think Reid is counting on that!

TBH I thought it would be Curlng Canada that had a rule in place for this (Can't attempt playdowns in two jurisdictions??) but I haven't done the research. We'll know soon enough.
