Pre WCT

It is neat to see all of the regional events become the most important events, especially this early in the season. Nobody is bringing in big name slam teams for these events. Provinces are staying in their bubbles and just appreciation the chance to curl competitively. The teams that have an inter-provincial mix of curlers have complications getting together.
This will make the national championships interesting, should they occur this season. If there are no slams - well, what is the contingency for that. Teams that hardly played together still get to go to the Scotties and Brier? (yes/no/maybe?)
It is getting more, not less complicated.

The Atlantic bubble is intact, not including northern NB by the PQ border. The Atlantic bubble has has less covid cases total for 7-8 months than ON per day lately. Yes I know there's a population difference but per capita, the mocked Atlantic bubble is waaaaay below the test of the National average. If not for 1 or 2 senior homes, and a dumb doctor that went to PQ From NB, Atlantic would be almost covid free, including those "from away" flying in. The rest of the country could have learned from the statement... "Stay the blazes home "
Recently the only covid cases are from people on flights from "away"

The doctor did not infect anyone. He was not person zero. His only error was not self isolating for 14 days and even that was in dispute

I agree. Couldn't believe the comment about a dumb doctor.

I never said he was patient zero. What would YOU call a person who left the Atlantic bubble, went to Quebec which at the time was the highest risk, highest infected in all of Canada, then come back to NB to work in a HOSPITAL without self isolating 14 days....fact. It doesn't matter if he got covid in Quebec or NB, he exposed 100's if not 1000's because of his negligence. Boo boo he's crying I'm not patient zero, as a doctor he should have known better, he should have isolated. Who's to say that if he picked it up in NB obviously within those 14 days, that it would never have spread if he just stayed the blazes home the 14 days. How can you defend or condone incompetence. I don't get it.

So anyway,
How will this season's emphasis on regional and not slam events influence the Scotties and Brier this year.
- Level of play at provincials?
- SLAM curlers qualifying points? Berths?
- Will it be different, assuming we have nationals in 2021.

Well Saskatchewan and the Atlantic bubble are playing away, against their own. 10 years ago, there was a weak pool in the Atlantic so, fewer events of note, possibly. Is the pool stronger? Are the teams giving eachother strong enough competition to make a difference at the Scotties/Brier?
This is different from the pre WCT era. This covid era makes team use their regional competition to become sharp. Alberta has nothing and Manitoba has nothing now. When/if codeRed is lifted, big travel spiels will still be unlikely. So, since they are planning a united Scotties/Brier (Did I read that somewhere? Calg?) then these regions that are actually competing frequently might have a better kick at the cat than usual. Thoughts?

It's worth reading more into this story. The doctor went to Quebec to pick up his daughter, in a shared custody arrangement.

He didn't stop anywhere in Quebec outside of picking up his daughter.

He was safe. Likely had caught it before the trip.
