Timeout Rule

http://www.worldcurling.org/rules-a...tions-downloads

Section C6:
(a) Each team shall receive 38 minutes of thinking time for a 10 end game.

Section C7:
(b) Each team may call one 60 second team time-out during each game and one 60 second team time-out in each extra end.

The Brier, Scotties, and all playdown events follow Section C6 using 38 minutes of thinking time.

BUT, these events HAVE 2 TIMEOUTS instead of 1 per the WCF C7 rules.

The WCF rules are in effect for the Olympics. Isn't the Olympics the highest standard of the sport which all curlers aspire to?

Is having 1 timeout versus 2 timeouts a difference in the dynamic of the clock management of the teams? If it is not, then why the difference in the rules between WCF and Curl Canada? One would think Curl Canada would want to prep their teams for the rules in place at the Worlds/Olympics

Canada has always played by its own rules, and timeouts is just one difference. There was a period when Canada uses 3-rock rule when the rest of the world uses 4-rock rule. For 2022 ad 2023, WCF uses NTZ, which Canada still refuses to acknowledge outside of the grand slams (Switzerland by contrast played with NTZ in their 2022 national championships).

In Canada, if you run out of time in the Brier/Scotties, your opposition still has to beat you on the ice. In WCF, if you run out of time, you lose immediately then and there, period.

Don't get me started on LSD procedural difference. I think Canada finally follows WCF procedure now, but it hasn't always.

It's the way it's always been, for better or for worse.

Nevermind, I take back what I said about Canada following WCF's LSD procedure. It does NOT. Canada is still making up its own LSD procedure.

https://www.curling.ca/team-canada/...e-draw-process/

See rule 18 for example. If the team with first practice couldn't even hit the paint with 2 draws, it gets third and fourth and fifth chance to hit the paint ad infinitum. All of that just to avoid tossing a coin ala WCF.

Is it really necessary to necropost? Look at the date of the OP.

Clipmandu

2 options

1. Paid to post to make others then post to stir up responses to create activity on the site.

2 Giant PITA

Either way, a non curler, non Canadian, trying their best to be active on a site they know nothing about, other than researching “clips” and “quotes” from real curlers.

Sometimes I bite, most times I just shrug it off.
It would be like me posting on surgical expertise sites. I’ve seen videos and on tv, but I have zero life experience in surgery.

Good curling to the rest.

Timeouts are rubbish

So, you play a GREAT shot, putting the opposition into real trouble. Your reward is that they get to talk to their coach?!?!

The main function of timeouts seems to be the homogenisation of different sports into something that television understands.
