Technically a news release and not the rule but I’ll allow it because while not in rules verbiage it gets across enough if the intent

Agreed that should have been a violation of the no tick rule. Thanks for the video.
Did the offended team know that it was a violation? My guess is that the offended team did not know and moved on. [strikeout]Technically the offended team has options with a violation of the FGZ and I assume with no tick as well.[/strikeout] [I was wrong 😑]
Officials don’t typically get involved unless there is disagreement between the teams

Thank you for providing video! So at the moment the official WCF report is erroneous, because that stone does look to be outside the house before it was bumped in.
Yes, from my understanding of the rule, you are correct in asserting that this is a violation and the shooter should have been pulled off and the guard repositioned to where it was before it was touched.

That is incorrect. There is no option to ignore FGZ violation in modern era.
Canada used to have an option to ignore FGZ violation in 3 rock era, but this is no longer the case in modern era.

Agree. Bush league. My mom used to say a change is as good as a rest. Not in this instance. They’re trying to bring the teams with the best ability to hold a lead and keep hammer, back to those that can’t. For what? Doesn’t make the game better. Doesn’t make the game better for anyone. Oh except those trying to keep their jobs at wcf.
We can debate the merit of the rule, but regardless, a rule with such implications should not be debuted at the sport's biggest event. It would be like the NHL saying before the Stanley Cup finals "We're going to increase the goal size by 20% to increase scoring chances and make the game more interesting!"

Round 2 and we already have proof positive of the stupidity of the no-tick rule. A team is light on a draw, ticks the guard by accident and the solution is...remove the thrown stone and put the guard back? And this makes the game MORE fair?
World Curling is an abysmal organization that hates the sport and this is further proof.

Worlds in an Olympic year is curling’s second biggest event. Get over it

Worlds in a non-Olympics year is curling's second biggest event. It's third this year.

Interesting discussion about coaching between Kevin and Rhona during the Japan-Turkey game.
Points about young teams getting timely advice from the coach throughout the game. Point taken.
But this is the "World Championship"!
A good part of the game of curling is strategy, brains, situational awareness of rock position etc, hence the oft used comparison to chess. So having a coach, would be like some young chess player asking Kasparov or Fischer what to do every few moves.
Or in other words, cheating!
To summarize, on-ice coaching during a curling game is idiotic!

Countries get the same amount of ranking points for Olympics and Worlds. Regardless of viewer interest level, the importance of the events are equal.

Ranking points?? For what of importance?
If there is no importance to national performance over time, then what is the importance of these world championships themselves? It's just a single data point in the those rankings.

Japan renders the no tick rule irrelevant by being unable to place a guard on the center line...

Official report says that Scotland played with only 3 against Switzerland. Beth Farmer is listed as Alt.
https://worldcurling.org/events/wwc...=1156&game=5018
Earlier they reported on TSN that Farmer was flying in to hopefully play in this game, but I guess she didn't quite make it.
Henderson is not listed as part of Team Scotland.
Interestingly, SUI played with Carole Howald at second for the entire game, benching Esther Neuenschwander.

Another timely clutch shot when it was needed from the skip from Turkey. (Draw to the pin facing two)..
On to the extra end. What a enjoyable game.

I assume it's not enough just to arrive at the building at the time? I imagine there's various COVID protocol to be cleared before she would be allowed onto the ice.

Really? I'm annoyed at the lack of quality. Lots of missed shots in the tenth and eleventh end by both sides.

This article says Farmer hasn't even arrived yet.
https://www.tsn.ca/scots-reshuffle-...id-19-1.1773287
"The Scots played as a threesome in their Saturday night opener against defending champion Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland as they awaited the arrival of Farmer."
