You're right they are way too low in the standings to qualify for the slams, and that's before they lose the team 20%. Right now curling Canada has them 10th place for ctrs. Once they lose the 20% they'll drop to lower than 20th. It is very unlikely the players coming in will have as many points as those leaving, so probably drop to 25th or lower.

Their best bet is to try and get back into the top 15 in Canada to try and get to the Olympic pretrial, with a long shot to qualify directly to the trials. Have to win next year's Scotties for that

Lawton has had an excellent career but has also had the same problem plague her all throughout it--the big miss on a key draw in the late ends. I think Silvernagle will miss the veteran presence and positive attitude that she has but in the long run she will be better off.

Shocked at this. Wow.

Also kinda shocked that I have only heard of women's teams making shakeups, but no men's teams so far.

Team Homan post:

Team HomanLike Page
19 mins ·
It is with mixed emotions that we share news about upcoming changes to Team Homan. Rachel, Emma and Joanne are sad to announce we are parting ways with Lisa. Over the years we’ve grown together and are so proud of everything we’ve accomplished, including winning three Scotties Tournament of Hearts titles, a world championship and representing our country at the Olympics.

We value our friendship with Lisa and truly wish her all the best.

While this is a very difficult decision to make on many fronts, we are restructuring our front end to continue in our relentless pursuit of excellence. We are looking forward to the future of the team and to continue to push ourselves to be the best that we can. More information about our team lineup will come at a later date.

this doesnt make it sound like lisa's choice either. this sounds like a team decision. really shocking. i dont really know who they could even pick up to get better lisa was/is one of the best leads in the world

if lisa is choosing to continue on next season she will be the hottest free agent on the market.

Agree sounds like she was booted vs the old "stepping back from the game b.s." . There is NO way whomever they get to replace her will have 1/10th her resume`. Unless they get Dawn McEwen to play born in Ontario card. I do hope they curl out of AB, maybe now they can rescind the birthplace homan rule.

Hope Lisa gets on a great team and beats them. Homan would
be nowhere near where she is today without her.

Shocking news to dump your best player...I guess now the trials spot is secured, Homan can be ruthless. No longer cheering for them.

Because top teams are a business, I'd be very curious what the buyout would be . 25% of money earned ytd
plus 25% sponsorship money plus 25% curling Canada funding plus 25% sport Canada national funding plus 25% Canadian Olympic funding, less last year's expenses. Big payout. And a loss of 20% of the teams points.

Sad day for a great team.

Go Lisa go.

Why don't we wait and see what Lisa plans on doing before making ridiculous statements like "no longer cheering for them". Maybe Lisa wants to start a family. Maybe Lisa doesn't want to play with Team Homan any longer. Maybe Lisa has decided to be a coach. Lets give Lisa and Team Homan a chance to explain the reasons.

I think you have got all the explanation you are going to get. Lisa will not speak out, due to something she probably had to sign.

Read it over, it certainly does not sound like Lisa was the one to decide.

Read between the lines and the innuendos. It is the same gobblyedygook the human resource depts use. Lisa was canned plain and simple.

Quite the shocker with Weagle.
My two cents: this is about the bigger and stronger you are the more effective your sweeping is. Look at the top men's teams and you have monsters on the front end, Gallant, Thiessen, Flasch, Harndens, the list is long. Weagle is nowhere near as muscular as Courtney and that is the type of player Homan will replace her with. You can teach someone to shoot and sweeping technique, you can't teach size.

So Rachel Holman cans the highest percentage shooter on her team and published a bland, self serving press release that states nothing.

Holman, you've finally shown your true colors by making your lead a scapegoat. Well done. Hope you can sleep at night after stabbing your lead in the back rather than admitting your a choker.

Just because you're big and strong it does NOT make you a good sweeper. Hebert and Flasch were terrible. Sweep like hell and then koe yells whoooaaaaa. And it goes deep. A much better sweeper can tell you top 4 out of your hand and finishes top 4. (Gallant) ....Hebert strong sweeper, terrible judge of weight. Highly thought of because of having kennedy and laing judging the weight, and he sweeps. Similar to weagle, greatest tick shooter ever, and tells Courtney when to sweep. The ability to sweep is great, but who cares if you sweep it 2 feet deep.

Wonder if some of those critiquing Rachel for this also critiqued Epping for dropping Craig from the team, or still bitter over Jones dropping Cathy O. Team changes happen, it's sport.

Neither were done MID Olympic cycle. Both were the end of the 4 year cycle. Yes it sucks when players are dumped, but to dump the best player at their position makes everyone say hmm. We'll
see if more unfolds.

Laura Walker probably will not join Team Homan. She was borderline retired, and she needs teammates that understand her priorities, one of which is to start a family.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/curling/in...scotties-dream/

Homan would probably require a much stronger commitment to the team's "relentless pursuit of excellence" (their own words).

Courtney is now the best 2nd in Canadian womens curling (Shannon Birchard a very close #2); Emma is arguable the best 3rd although Val Sweeting gave her a run for her money, especially in the STOH final.

Dawn is still the best lead in the women's game - although her lead continues to decrease.

Kaitlyn no longer the top 3rd - or even in a deadlock with Miskew. Part of Lawes' problem is her skip giving her increasingly tougher degree of difficulty shots.

Really ML? She was voted all star lead at this years Scottie’s. You shouldn’t need great big muscle women to sweep your rock, just throw the right weight.

Yes it was quite the surprise to hear Lisa getting the boot. However, I don’t know if there was a personality conflict within the team that prompted the decision. Still it sucks to be let go on a team where Lisa has obviously contributed immensely to the success of the team. Lisa was a player who NEVER expressed frustrations during a game. Utmost respect for that trait. Still, she has achieved way more that 98% of curlers so retiring now might be a great change for her. I don’t see her playing on another team since it would only be a step down.
