Paid to curl

Saw an item on social media saying that members of Sweden’s curling teams will now be paid by the government to curl. Seems the world elites are moving farther ahead.

If I’m remembering correctly, and I may have this a little wrong, the top Olympic-caliber Swedish teams were receiving government funding during the last cycle. When the cycle ended, the funding ended too, with the caveat that it would likely be restored sometime as the next cycle progressed. Now that some of the tour points are again going towards Olympic qualification this year, perhaps that’s why they’re getting some money again now?

OK, time to get the facts correct. The Swedish players are not getting paid by the goverment.

What happend recently is that in order to get more social security the teams have decided to but all their winnings, sponsor money and the little money they get from the swedish curling federation in to the swedish federation.
So they with that money can pay salarys and be employees.
What that really means is that their own money pays for their own salarys so that they get the social security like pensions, parental leave and so on. this also means that about 50% of their money will be taxes.

So if the dont get sponsor money or win money they will not get any salary.
