Worlds and the coronavirus

We’re beginning to see countries put up travel restrictions for people coming from China due to the coronavirus epidemic.

If, as seems likely to me, these restrictions continue into March and April, then the Chinese women’s and men’s curling teams may be unable to travel to the world championships.

Does anyone know if there are contingencies for such a situation, when a qualified country is suddenly unable to send one? Would they just go ahead with one less team, or might they invite in the next country on the list?

Very good point. The WCF would likely invite the next teams on the list...

Both the men's and the women's team are currently out of the country and have been for a while. Hopefully, they can arrange their visas (Cdn for the women) without having to return to China.

That’s good to hear, they should stay out if they can. But the Chinese government can be strict especially if the teams are supposed to return before the worlds.

I don't know about procedures in sport now but as far as I know Chinese people from most part of China can travel without any issues. Nobody blocked 100% of Chinese people to go out of the country. I live in my property in Greece here and thank God we didn't have any case of coronovirus yet. Maybe Chinese don't like to come to Greece much

I was thinking more along the lines of returning to thank sponsors, attend a send off rally etc...

Question

there is no chinese womens team at the world juniors this year even though there should be. the major theory being that they didnt send one because of the corona virus. now, if this is a problem for the junior team could this end up being a problem for the adult teams afterall?.

there's been no word so no confirmation from anyone anywhere as to why there is no womens team there but there doesnt seem to be any other reason that makes sense either

I'll be officiating at the USA College Championships.

Wonder if wearing a medical mask at the airport/plane is on the menu.
Probably.
