That is huge if Team Walker stay together because they would get a Canada Cup spot.

Jones isn't an import anymore under the new rules. So, if Peterman would move, it wouldn't cause any problems to team Jones, as long as Dawn stays in Manitoba.

Re: Carey and Koe
Neither announcement surprises me.
Colton did not look like a happy camper in the brier.
Carey for whatever reason has a best before date attached to her. Both Carey and Koe have made a lot of changes to their teams over the past number of years.
Everyone points to Sarah as being in the upper echelon. I doubt you could ever find a more joyful pair to curl with than her front end, and don't forget they can curl at a high level and are great sweepers.
I am not here to throw stones at anyone, just making an observation
Something was terribly wrong with both teams this past year

Peterman and Lawes are(were?) roommates, so yes she moved to live in MB.

Q: Jocelyn, how has the move to Manitoba been and better yet, how is rooming with Kaitlyn [Lawes]?

My guess is Ted Appelman will join Koe. They liked him enough to bring him on as fifth twice to the Brier. I don't know enough about him to speculate if he's willing to abandon his team to play second, though.

Koe replacement

Regarding the Koe replacement, because they already employ an import means their hands are tied.

While both Matt Wozniak and/or Denni Neufeld would be distinct possibilites if they were willing to re-locate,other possibilities Reid Carruthers,Matt Dunstone(wouldn't rule these two out), and more realistic options such as Carter Rycroft,Kirk Muyres,Matt Hall,Karsten Sturmay or Pat Simmons.

Reid Carruthers joining Koe? Are you just throwing out random names here or can you justify it with something tangible?

This seems highly unlikely to me, based on the reported claim that Carruthers takes pride in being in charge of his team and everything he's built around it. This is one of the main reason why Mike McEwen joined, according to his interview with Stone & Straw.

https://stoneandstraw.libsyn.com/s02e05-mike-mcewen @ 1h07m20s

quote:
"A big factor is the guys he's surrounded himself with, the team, the personalities [...] Reid's done an amazing job putting together [...] connected with the curling community, junior clinics, business side of things, support that matters...

That's attractive having a team that I'm joining that is able to execute on that level [...] doing a whole bunch of things right"

Vic Rauters also supported this notion when he said on-air that the team have found the formula that works best for them: McEwen is in charge of the team on-ice, Carruthers is in charge off-ice. Again, Carruthers takes pride in what he's built, and he still considers it his team, not McEwen's.

Vic & Cathy discussed this here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2mIYKG2fDM&t=11m5s
quote:
"Mike, you are the leader on the ice, but for Reid, there is so many things that go on off the ice that he takes pride in, he plans and manages all the practices for the team, he does sponsorship liason and enters things, so he feels a sense of leadership off the ice, and supports Mike on, and that has been the secret"

It's highly unlikely given these factors that Carruthers would abandon everything he's built for himself to join Koe, especially when they've figured out via personality tests that he has strong leadership personality (and so does McEwen).

Here's a team that will be out of NL: Aaron Sluchinski skipping with Mattheew Blandford, Brent Hamilton and Don Bartlett. I wonder if this team exists if it wasn't for Gushue winning Brier.

Here's what I've found:

https://www.curlingzone.com/player.php?playerid=20665
Brent Hamilton
Born: Jan 20, 1983 in St. John, Newfoundland / Labrador
Resides: Calgary, Alberta

https://www.curlingzone.com/player.php?playerid=1328
Don Bartlett
Born: Apr 1, 1960 in Gander, Newfoundland / Labrador
Resides: Edmonton, Alberta

https://www.curlingzone.com/player.php?playerid=15339
Aaron Schluchinski
Born: Mar 24, 1987 in Drayton Valley, Alberta
Resides: Airdrie, Alberta

https://www.curlingzone.com/player.php?playerid=3426
Matthew Blandford
Born: Apr 16, 1985 in Stephenville, Newfoundland / Labrador
Resides: Cold Lake, Alberta

So all 4 resides in AB, but 3 were born in NL.

I'm a new fan, and I'm not even Canadian, so I'm okay with this.

Eeerrrrrrccchhh....pop.

That's sound of the can of worms opened up by the homan rule. Stay tuned, guaranteed more to come.

Rule should be max 1 resident born only per team. Really should be none but too late now.

I kind of agree. Satire Plus how will they get there? Swim? No airlines by that time or there is it will be so cost prohibitive

this is just stupid. outright manipulation of the rule. at least with team homan you had weagle and miskew who lived in ontario.

id imagine that the newfoundland teams that actually live in newfoundland would be pretty pissed with this.

What planet do you live on? Domestic flights have not been cancelled. Reduced in numbers but not cancelled. And there is also a ferry from NS to NFL.

I hope these 4 guys from Alberta get beat in the playdowns by a team that has lived in Newfoundland for awhile. Might be decent fellows but this kind of manipulation is not cute or a special story or anything like that.

Don’t hate the players, hate the game.
This is all on curl Canada.
Should have a rule that you have the reside within a 100 mile radius of a common curling club. Get the brier back to what it originally was.

When you win the Scotties or Brier, isn’t there a two year pot-o-gold that curling Canada gives you? What happens to that with Chelsea Carey if the team implodes?

That's a great question. I see one of 2 options. Split the money 4 ways, or more likely forfeit the money as no longer 3 of the 4 original members on the team.

Excellent question. I think there is "cresting money" which they would have used part of this past year.
I am sure someone out there knows

Wouldn't it be funny if the local clubs in NL banned together and said NO you can't become a member unless you LIVE in NL. Then they can't play out of NL as you must be a member of a club in good standing for the province you want to represent. NL teams, start your petitions.

To clarify
In addition, the team is eligible for $169,440 in funding over two years from Sport Canada.
My guess is that they would find it very hard to get at least half of that money
The other money is a prize which I would guess has already been divided up 4 ways

Do you really think that this is actually true? (Four guys from AB playing to rep NFLD)
I think this is a bit of old fashioned leg pulling by 3 Newfoundlanders to draw attention to the old farts from Ontario making a mockery of the rules, who in the end didn't do any better than four old farts who actually live in PEI
If you don't believe me check the record
