You got it backwards. They were turned on in the RR, and turned off for playoffs.

You can also verify this by eyeballing the LEDs. They turn green for the YouTube preliminary games. For the TSN playoff games, the lights are dead.

Some fun facts about the upcoming trials.
Every last rock thrower from the 2017 trials is back in 2021 on the men's side with 2 playing other positions. 28 of the 36 players from last time are back.
6 of the 9 skips return on the women's side with a couple of them playing 3rd this time around.
Manitoba has lost 3 trails finals on the men's side, Alberta has lost 3 on the women's.

This is not at all surprising. Once your an elite curler, the sponsors come easier. The competitive tournaments come more . It’s easier to stay elite than to get there.
