Not including the 7th end this was a great game. Predict these 2 make the final unless they meet in the semis.

Hopefully they finish 1/2 or 2/3 in their pool then, otherwise it wont be possible to meet in the finals

I would argue Pool A is the stronger pool, from top to bottom. Pool B has 6 of the bottom 9 (of the total 20) ranked nations in it. It seems pretty straight forward that Scotland, USA, and Canada would/should be the 3 playoff teams from that pool.

AUS scored a 6-ender vs ESP in 1st end. We haven't had a blank end yet, which I thought for sure would've come before a 6-ender.

When AUS called for a timeout against CZE, I didn't expect to see coach Laura Walker. That took me completely by surprise.

I really enjoy Sven Michel yelling Alina's name when he's sweeping. It's completely superfluous, carrying absolutely no curling information whatsoever, but it gives a glimpse at their off-ice relationship.

I don't think I've ever seen a steal of 5 on a power play before. Really wasn't Korea's day.

And hey, Constantini is mortal after all!

What a start for the Suisse, scoring a 6 in the opening end vs the Italians.

Italy fought right back with a 3. There's still a realistic chance of a comeback. It's mixed doubles, after all.

They could have fought a little more. Constantini missed a fairly simple draw for 4.

Pool A could be wild after this draw.
Suisse now up 9-3 after 3.
Norway up on Estonia
Sweden up on NZ
Denmark leading Japan. All could be in the 5-2/4-3 range if the respective leads stick.

Denmark hasn't shown much after their opening big end. Tied up going into the last end, and Japan has the hammer and the power play.

Pool A - the actual Death Pool, has 5 teams at 5-2. Switzerland has already played the four teams they are tied with, and have a 2-2 record overall against said teams. If they win out, that should guarantee them a playoff spot.

Remaining very impactful games for Pool A, assuming the top half win their 'other' games are:
Draw 15: Norway vs Italy
Draw 17: Sweden vs Japan

Pool B, pretty straight forward.
Scotland should win at least 2 if not all 3 remaining games. If they win 2, they are guaranteed a SF spot. I'm still going with Scotland, Canada, USA as the top 3, but Hungary looks to play spoiler since their remaining games are with the Czechs, Scots, and Americans. I think their loss to Turkey will potentially be huge to their final placement.

Every team in the 5-2 bunch is guaranteed a playoff spot if they win out, as Italy will play Norway and Japan will play Sweden, guaranteeing that no more than three teams can finish 7-2.

This Hungarian strategy of having Szekeres not in the house for Nagy's rocks seems strange. Like, if you're not sweeping, what are you doing down there while he's throwing. Odd.

Anyway, Scotland heading toward a 7-0 record shortly.

USA in a tough battle with Australia, and Spain taking it to Czech.

Does anyone know why last year's playoffs were so weirdly setup? They had the winner of A2/B3 vs A1 in one SF and B2/A3 vs B1 in the other. This year, however, the playoffs are set up properly with A1 facing the winner of B2/A3 and B1 vs A2/B3.

I can't recall any team at this level giving up six enders in consecutive games. Even in full four person team curling!

Wow, pretty much all or nothing for Japan in their final match with Sweden. If they win, they are guaranteed first place in their group, but if they lose, then it is extremely unlikely for them to get a playoff spot.

The rules back then was to re-seed the teams that passed the qualifiers for semifinals, so the highest ranked team play the lowest ranked.

In 2021 WMDCC, B1 SWE is ranked higher than A1 SCO due to having better DSC. B2 NOR is ranked lower than A2 CAN due to having worse DSC.

Hence best vs worst is B1 vs B2 in one semifinal, and the leftover is A1 vs A2 in the other semifinal.

World Men's and Women's used to reseed too, to pair the best vs the worst in the semifinal, but they've since gotten rid of the reseeding and simplified the bracket/schedule.

If I remember correctly, this reseeding thing caused quite a ruckus back in 2021. I don't remember the details. I'll try to find news articles about it...

I don't remember the mens and womens being reseeded ever - because they've not been in pools, it was always 1v4 and 2v3 in the SF's after the round robin concluded (until switching to the Page system of course). But I see in 2021 they had it so the winners of the qualification game were put into a semi with the appropriate opposing seed.

You weren't paying attention. The Men's and Women's have used 6 team playoff since 2018.

1 and 2 gets bye to semifinals, then 3v6 and 4v5 for qualifiers.

Then, it used to be that 1 play the worst and 2 play the other. Now 1 play vs winner of 4v5, and 2 play vs winner of 3v6.

Yeah, that's not what I would consider a reseeding, but okay.
