European championships 2022

Scotland sending Rebecca Morrison and Mouat to defend their titles from last year.

Sweden will be the favourites with home advantage.

Without muirhead and kovaleva around the womens event seems boring and predictable race between switzerland and sweden. Scotland is weak and very well could miss qualifying. Germany, italy , denmark and norway will be fighting for that bronze.

Mens sweden is the favorite. Mouat been extremely underwhelming all year and it wouldnt surprise me if they missed the podium as well. They should qualify but italy, netherlands, switzerland and norway have all looked great this season . Unless mouat finds form i could see them finishing below all them.

Hasselborg for sweden again. Wrana has had a great season. Broke through in the slams. What does one need to do in sweden to prove they deserve a chance to rep sweden. This is ridiculous

Wranå acually met Hasseborg in qualification games for the Europeans. Best of 7 games, which Hasselborg won 4-1. So the Swedish curling association have acknowledged Wranås capabilities, but they just didn´t make it this time.
Yes, it’s tough getting a break with Hasselborg being the most prominent team in your country (and also in the same club, Sundbyberg). But as the second womens team they at least have a chance. The second mens team doesn´t even come close. Unless the menisci of the rest of team Edin pops, too…

It’s worth pointing out that Mouat’s team have had their best sweeper (Lammie) unable to sweep due to a broken hand so he’s been having to hold the broom and Mouat is having to get involved in the sweeping. Lammie has now recovered so they can go back to their usual team dynamic. I think they will come back into form next week.

Wikipedia has Sweden being skipped by Eriksson with Wrana, Sungren and Magnusson. Is Edin injured?

Yrah. I only just saw an article with bruce talking about it. Did not know that. They did do well in basel this past week. Still it may be to much to expect them to win euros .

Im gonna change my podium prediction for the men

Sweden
Italy
Norway

Ramsfjell is looking really strong this year. Hes my darkhorse for a surprise winner/finalist depending on how playoff draw works out

Hasselborg opens with a surprise defeat to Denmark. Scotland with a comeback win over Turkey. Comfortable wins for Germany, Norway and Switzerland.

Nothing surprising about being defeated by Madeleine Dupont. She has had quite a few victories against higher ranked teams.

First session in the men’s went as expected. Scotland made slightly hard work of Germany, winning 6-4 in overtime. Other games were easy wins for Sweden, Switzerland and Italy. Spain v Turkey in overtime as we speak.

Team Hasselborg is playing really bad down the stretch. Don't know what is going with Anna, but this is unacceptable

Scotland and Swedish men playing currently - 3-3 after 4 ends at the moment. Typically close as you would expect.

You have two Olympic champions commentating too - Nikas Edin and Rhona Martin - o the WCF stream.

They beat Latvia this morning maybe the start of a winning streak!

Double defeat for Scotland women today against Italy and Denmark. If that continues then Olympic champion Hailey Duff won’t be benched for much longer.

Dupont (DEN) is now 4W-0L, having defeated 2W-2L Hasselborg (SWE), 2W-2L Roervik (NOR), 2W-2L Morrison (SCO), and 0W-4L Halasz (HUN).

Absolutely not surprised at all. She's been to 3 Olympics. Her sister has been to 4.

W DEN is now 5W-0L, the only remaining undefeated team in women's, after beating reigning world champion Tirinzoni.

M ITA is also 5W-0L, which is good indication that Amos Mosaner probably recovered 100% from his injury that sidelined him from World Mixed Doubles. This is just a guess, though, I haven't heard/read anything about his recovery.

Unacceptable is harsh. Don't forget, regular 3rd,Sara McManus is off pregnant and the others have moved up. The conversations in the house are a bit different. I'm sure they are giving it their all.

Italy and Scotland - both unbeaten - and Switzerland have already qualified for the men's semis with two sessions still to play.

Final spot looks to be between Sweden and Turkey who play tomorrow and Germany.

On the women's side Denmark and Switzerland have qualified with Hungary and Latvia relegated. In theory any of the other six could still make the semis but Scotland is probably out of it.

If Scotland don't beat Hungary tomorrow they could end up out of the top 7 and fail to make the worlds.

The rise of Italian curling recently just in time for 2026 Olympics in Italy is nothing less than exciting.

They're already going to be defending Olympic curling champions in 2026. Can you imagine if they're also going to be defending World champions?

Maybe that's asking too much, but I predict at least one more major accomplishment for Italy ahead of 2026.

That is true, but it's also true that Hasselborg has missed simple open draws to the 4-ft, and has even missed the 8-ft. Even the commentators are baffled.

//edit: Heldin is the vice, so those draws were missed even with the team's "original" front-end sweepers (Knochenhauer & Mabergs).

//edit: I'm catching the games on replay, as I usually do, so this is a bit behind the current standings, but at this point, the commentators were saying that there's a real danger of both Swedish teams missing the playoff, which would've been a great disappointment to the local home fans.

I must say that I enjoy seeing Sophie Jackson as Team Scotland. Although being partnered with Sophie Sinclair makes for a confusing front-end duo in this directional sweeping era.

I wonder if there had been elite front-end duo with the same first names before.

//edit: I'm pretty sure Sophie Jackson is "Soph" and Sophie Sinclair is "Sinc".
