I tried to do a full breakdown of all the Pool A teams chances, but with DSC so close, it's really impossible to do it well.

Basically, I don't see a scenario where Italy can advance, so for Japan, Sweden, Norway, and Switzerland, it's win to advance, lose and it's wait and see how everything shakes out. Norway's opponent is winless New Zealand, and Switzerland has the best DSC, so my best guess is that they are both through, along with the winner of Japan vs Sweden.

New Zealand's relegation is confirmed, Finland is going to the relegation playoff, likely joined by either South Korea or the loser of the Estonia vs Denmark game.

Monthly rant.

For the love of God clips, why do you go out of your way to post crap, get responses, then repost more crap. How about an original thought rather than posting clips of what real curlers or real curling fans or real curling journalists say. Just watch the games, enjoy the games, be more positive. I’ve tried in the past to be sarcastic or funny, arguably with a bit of success....or not, but you’re vindictive bs towards other posters is borderline crazy. Keep your clips and links to yourself. The rest of us actually like curling, like watching it. But you go out of your way to try and pick apart posters and watchers that don’t have your “view” from a person that never played the game. Can you say never curled but I’m an expert? I thought you could. Rather than trying to prove legitimate posters wrong to try and make your point, shhh. Watch and learn in silence.

After all that, go Canada go. Love to see Canada Scotland final. And that day May the best team win either way.

I've been hoping for Switzerland, Norway, and Sweden to advance out of their pool, so fingers crossed this happens (for my sake lol).

I want to see at least 2 Pan-Continental teams in the playoff, and that probably means JPN and CAN. Maybe USA can get in too, but that's probably a harder path.

Japan is likely to fall from first place to fifth place in a single match. Pool of death indeed!

And Japan is out. Sweden, Switzerland and Norway out of pool A. I guess somewhat not surprisingly Italy fails to qualify. Now that I see Mosaner wasn't there

GER scored 6-ender vs CZE. So that's four 6-ender already, and not even a single blank end yet.

In terms of shooting percentage, ITA is ahead of SUI, SWE and NOR.

https://curlit.com/WMDCC/aspnet/sta...?EventID=1&MD=1

But better execution can only do so much. Their weakness is in strategy and tactics due to inexperience.

I haven't watched all games, but ITA is the only team I've watched so far that got deprived of a chance to use the power play by the opposition (KOR in this case).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z665mK014jk&t=3m2s

Speaking of Mosaner, it sounded like his injury was quite serious.

https://www.eurosport.it/curling/mo...301/story.shtml
"lesione di terzo grado al vasto intermedio del quadricipite sinistro"

Google translates that as "third degree injury to the vastus intermedius of the left quadriceps".

I'm no doctor, but online sources say that third degree is a complete rupture, as bad as it can be (there's no fourth degree). Vastus intermedius is also a rare quad muscle to injure, and is quite inaccessible to massage therapy/stretching, so surgery/healing may be complicated.

Anyone know why in the Seniors Championships, the USA men, who had the 4th best record (5-1, behind three 6-0 teams), were put as the 6th (below two 4-2 teams) seed for playoffs?

ETA: Nevermind, apparently the eight playoff teams were seeded based off their DSC. lol.

I admit that I've pretty much ignored Seniors, but only because there's so much Mixed Doubles to catch up to.

I did notice the Wranå family portrait (mom, dad, son, daughter, all in Geneva playing in World championships!). The parents were also there cheering their children on some games, which is awesome!

https://twitter.com/worldcurling/st...618217475510273

Having the Seniors simultaneously held with Mixed Doubles has always been interesting. In 2013, Hans Frauenlob basically played in 2 World championships simultaneously.

Stats for Scotland after pool play is eye opening.

https://curlit.com/WMDCC/aspnet/stats-analysis.aspx

Not a single point stolen from them (no equal)
100% Power Play efficiency (equaled by Sweden)
+3.0 points on power play on average (highest)
76% hammer efficiency (highest)
79 points for (highest)
29 points against (lowest)
+50 points plus/minus (highest)

Eve Muirhead is shooting 90%. Second place is Jocelyn Peterman at 10% lower.

I was hoping to watch some of the Sweden/Germany game but it doesn't appear to be on recast, just the two relegation games are showing up, for me anyway.

Hopefully this is a glitch, as I want to be able to watch the other playoff games when I don't have access to a television.

It's not a glitch. Some of the WCF videos on Curling Channel on Recast is geoblocked. If you're in Canada, then the playoff games will be on TSN, but it won't be on Recast until a month later.

I wonder will Peterman and Gallant now be subjected to the same vitriol as the Olympic duo. I certainly hope not, because no one deserves it, but it will make for an interesting comparison. Probably lots of "end of a long season" or "they lost but in a more likable way," and maybe a few pot shots at Curling Canada for good measure. Likely few acknowledgements that Canada just isn't at the top in any discipline.

I don't think Canada has anything to feel bad about. I'd argue the missed hit for 2 in the first or Gallant's missed draw in 4 on his last throw (that led to a force vs a potential 3) were the differences in that game from what I saw...

I'll be cheering for Eve and Lammie now. Go Scotland Go!!!

Surprising results in the qualification games with Canada and Sweden losing to Norway and Germany.

Looking like a Scotland vs Swiss final - Scotland already going through. Should be a good match up if it is.

A little disappointed this morning with Canadian loss. Had their chances but bit heavy and wide at times. Norway played well last half for the win. Was hoping Canada Scotland final. Next year?

All European semifinals. Last year it was also all-European on the podium.

Don't forget that they also dominated at the last 2 Continental Cups, 2019 North America vs the World (but really just Europe) and 2020 Canada vs Europe.

Probably a good thing that 2022 Canada vs Europe was cancelled, because they probably would've dominated then too.

Also notable of course that both teams in the final hadn't played any competitive mixed doubles events all season except for their national championships which qualified them for the worlds. Which creates an issue for the specialist teams moving forward - given this happened in an Olympic year.

Final getting tighter after Scotland's four pointer in the first end. 7-6 to Scotland with two ends left!

At least their federations ran championships…I played mixed doubles at my club…I’ll say this, I prefer it to mixed!

What a fantastic season for Eve and Bobby!

I truly hope to see more of Eve for a long time coming but if this is the pinnacle of her career, and she steps always sooner than later, than so be it - incredible career for the Scottish Princess.

ETA: I know this may be nitpicky, but this claim that is getting inputted in most if not all the articles I have read, is that Eve has completed the full set of gold medals, which is factually inaccurate. There is still an Olympic gold to be won for Mixed Doubles. Maybe that will be one of her goals for 2026?

Can you Martym elaborate why you Martym believe having elite 4-person men's/women's team curlers partnering up for mixed doubles and reaching the world championship final creates an issue for specialist mixed doubles teams that don't play 4-person team curling?
