The last few years have been amazing… but all good things must come to an end, and we will not continue on as a foursome next year. We will always cherish the experiences we had as a team. Thank you to all of our supporters over the years. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Sigh.

Almost hard to believe it's that time of the year.

More changes:

-Team Inglis is staying together

-Team Duncan is staying together

-Former Team Rizzo alternate Mallory Kean is joining Team Cadorin as Second, replacing Julie Weagle who is stepping back from the game.

-Team Streifel will have a new look next season

As if Manitoba needed to get even deeper of a field as it already is ;) Be interesting to see where the former members of the disbanded Darcy Robertson team up with.

Awaiting word on the impending Einarson/Sweeting divorce?

Just can't imagine those two trudging on into 2019 or beyond.

Not writing the team out. They had a great start of the season, might be going through growing pains right now with them being a new team and all.

From the Team Marthaller facebook page:

Every year after Provincials we take some time to figure out our goals for next year. This may have been the shortest turnaround yet between the end of Provincials and the start of planning for the next season! Placing third in the province left us knowing what we are capable of and wanting more (and we just can't seem to get enough of each other!)

To all of our fans and supporters, we are excited to officially announce we are keeping our force alive and cannot wait for another season together. Stay tuned for updates on sponsorship potential as well as our anticipated 2019 schedule! 🥌🥌🥌

I think I missed Michelle Englot more than anyone last season. Her inspired run to a silver medal, and losing to Rachel Homan''s "Double Doubles" had all the drama you could expect from our sport.

Although she lacks the "Fireball" shot (hi speed takeouts and rolls) most top rank women curlers can deliver - her spirit and strategy, will to win and never say die attitude made her one of my all-time women's curling favorites. Right up there with:

1. Jennifer Jones
2. Sandra Schmirler
3. Jill Officer
4. Jenn Hanna
5. Kaitlyn Lawes
6. Jeanna Schraeder
7. Shannon Birchard
8. Jamie Sinclair
9. Lana Vey
10. Binny Feltscher

Won't see this - but my ideal Team Englot =

Skip - Englot
3rd - Kaitlyn Lawes
2nd - Shannon Birchard
Lead - Dawn McEwen

also go with

Englot skipped but tossing 3rd stones
Kaitlyn at vice but tossing last rocks
2nd - Birchard
Lead - McEwen

Other possibilities
Skip - Englot
3rd - Kelcey Rocque
2nd - Laura Walker
Lead - Kristin McCuish

If rumors about Team Einarson breaking up are true -

Englot skipping
Einarson - 3rd
Meilleur - 2nd
McCuish - lead

Englot could also step into Team Tracy from Manitoba, replacing Selana Njegovan at 3rd.

Obviously the 2 women's players who've got checkered histories going:

1. Val Sweeting - her players win Scotties, Worlds & Olympic Trials (Rachelle, Dana, Courtney) but Val remains an enigma

2. Kerri Einarson - looks like the next Homan one week - then Roseanne Rosanadanna the next.

Both ladies still early 30s and lots of career left - but they really have to turbo-charge themselves. Worst pairing is the laconic duo of Val & Kerri.

Lots of intrigue as to where Michelle Englot will ply her trade next year - Sask'n or Manitoba?

Sask'n has become very competitive suddenly with the rise of Robyn Silvernagle; Streifel is a very competitive team with a skip who needs to calm down her last rock nerves, Amber Holland & Sherry Anderson still vets who know how to torment all comers.

In Manitoba the tide is turning a bit. Kerri Anderson seems to be building teams on a lazy susan, Jennifer Jones has a great team but Jones is starting to show continued rust on the chassis, Robertson & her sister still causing damage but neither would be better than 5-6 at nationals, will Fleury re-up with Kerri's old team?

If Englot can score a top-flite front end (the twin towers would be a start) and a reliable to excellent 3rd she'll wreak more havoc in Manitoba. Englot with Birchard and the twin towers (Raunora Westcott & Lesley Wilson) would be the main route.

Julie Tippin (ON) and her rink have announced via the team Facebook page that Julie is leaving competitive Curling, as she focuses on career and family. The remainder of the team, Third Megan Baldson, Second Sachelle Strybosch, and Lead Tess Bobbie are staying together, but have not got a replacement player yet.

Englot Return

In her post announcing that she was coming back someone asked if she was going to reunite with Kate seeing how she is a free agent. Michelle replied, "That would have been great but staying in Sask."

Manitoba women's field deep - but it isn't that efficient. Prolly 5 to 7 teams capable of wresting the crown every year. Field is infested by big names (sponsored teams, TV teams, JJ, etc.) but most full of shot-missers and strategy paupers,

Kerri Einarson, the highest rated and highly touted skip has turned into a moody and too often indifferent performer that seems capable of changing teams for a third time fairly soon. Can't see Kerri & Val withstanding each other - for another full year!

The young guns are coming up to torment the old guard - thats for sure - but Mack Zacharias isn't quite ready.

Jones has a fairly easy path into another Scotties go - but the field may be littered with teams capable of putting her down (and out) - Jones being her own worst enemy as most of her 2018 campaign - and her woeful showing at the STOH illustrated.

Two wild cards in Manitoba. What will Shannon Birchard do?
Where will Michelle Englot ply her trade?

The oddest thing - is perhaps those two teaming up and bringing the twin towers of Wilson & Westcott back into tow. Or Kristin McCuish or Meilleur on board if Wilson doesn't want to come out of retirement.

That all said - Wilson & Raunora aren't Officer & McEwen. Birchard is a real comer - the most prized player in recent Manitoba ladies history - but she's not Emma Miskew or Kaitlyn Lawes.

And Englot - for all her legendary career is 54/55 and seldom capable of throwing more than bumper weight. But unlike Jones, Englot knows how to design her game away from her weaknesses. Jones conceals an obvious deceit about her weaknesses - which right now centers around MAKING SHOTS ON A ROUTINE BASIS.

She could bring a Manitoba born 3rd like Katie Cameron or Shannon Birchard over to Sask. to play with her. Next few years Sask'n has one major obstacle to get to a national Scotties - Robyn Silvernagle - she's a gamer!!! Kristin Streifel is pretty good, too but had some late game and late shot collapses this year vs. Silvernagle

In Manitoba there's a whole flock of teams competing for the 1 STOH Manitoba receives. Prolly 6 to 8 teams capable of nabbing the STOH berth. Definitely not an auto-berth for Jones either. Her backup plan is easy - if she's out of sorts for Manitoba Scotties - she'll probably qualiffy for the play-in cuz of a rigorous cash spiel schedule where she's auto-invited to just about everything!
