Pinty's Grand Slam, Boost National

The second major of the curling season will take place on Tuesday, December 10th. This event will be televised on SN starting on December 12th at 11:00 AM ET ( 12:30 PM NT ).

Some believe this may be the most talented and competitive
women's field ever assembled; the men's division is not too shabby either.

If you're trying to guess which matches will be televised, I've noticed a pattern in the last several grand slams that they almost always start with whatever match is on Sheet C. That's always the sheet with the carpeting running down the outsides of the sheet, which makes things easier for their camera operators. So, just look up the draw schedule and see who's on C.

Or just follow the teams with the biggest budget as they pay the GSOC for tv coverage which in turn gets them the bigger budget.

The teams with the most money get the coverage. Vicious capitalist circle that makes it challenging for the new teams on the block.

OOOHHHH a conspiracy theorist, I like it. In this case though it's more about eyeballs watching than payoffs. More watching, better income for commercials. If I own Sportsnet I'm showing the most popular teams so that even the casual curling viewer will stay tuned. Using Jones vs Homan as the example, everyone has heard of these teams, even the casual viewer. MANY more people will stay tuned in to watch these teams than say a round robin game Roque vs Silvernagle. Me, I'd rather watch the less popular or up and comers, let them get some TV time, knowing full well the odds of Homan and Jones making the playoffs are pretty good. This way everyone gets a bit of TV time, or at least a chance of it.

Nothing specific, but basically some sort of illness. Similarly said of Fujisawa's lead.

https://thegrandslamofcurling.com/g...boost-national/

"Lead Kristie Moore has moved up to skip this week with Scheidegger (maternity leave) out of the lineup. Julie Devereaux, who plays for skip Erica Curtis of St. John’s, N.L., is subbing at lead. [...] Team Fujisawa are only playing as a trio with lead Yurika Yoshida sick and staying at home. Team Jones lead Dawn McEwen is also not playing this week due to illness although they called upon Edmonton’s Laura Walker to fill in."

If Jennifer Jones is struggling so much, why not have Kaitlyn throw skip rocks while she throws 3rd and calls the game?

Why change what has always worked.

Jen needs to get back in the groove and that includes throwing last rock.

EGO. I'd go so far as to have Jennifer throw 2nd, Joss 3rd and Kaitlyn 4th. Let her hold the broom if she must. A la Russ Howard and early Gushue.

Once again another thing I've noticed is the announcers being overly polite saying these rocks have a tremendous amount of curl. STOP SANDING THE ROCKS. 4-5 feet of curl is more than plenty. Holding the broom outside the 12 to get to the 4 foot/button is ridiculous. It should be more about the skill of the curlers than "Look how much I can make the rocks curl" by the rock sanders.

It seems as soon as we write ofF JJ..she curls up a storm. I still have fond memories of the 2014 Olympics where she won every single game...so perhaps this is her weekend and Joss looks very relaxed playing with Laura Walker.

Fujisawa's team has been a three player team since this event began.

If one of the three could not play on Saturday, would they be allowed to continue as a two player team?

Team Homan probably peaked for the Canada Cup and likely were a bit tired for this week. Einarson better get her act together. What’s up with Eve’s decisions? Is she afraid to draw? With Lawes playing at 54%, Muirhead had a good chance of stealing...ah well old age & craftiness beats youth & enthusiasm.

Although they lost in the QF I do think the communication in the new Team Koe's front end has improved (wheras Gushue's established team seems to be slipping at times?). BJ sounded sick and Koe looked a bit drawn in the face to me, rest up well over the holidays guys and come back to battle on!

Its so refreshing to watch the enthusiasm on Team Fujisawa.( compared to the miserable faces on many of the Cdn teams) They are clearly enjoying themselves. Their front end deserves credit for sweeping all week by herself.
Fleury needs to assert herself more and stop letting her front end interfere in the decision making.

I agree on both counts. Team Fujisawa always having fun and smiling, win or lose.

Does Team Fleury have a coach? If so, remind the front end they are like children of the 70's, speak when spoken to, otherwise be quiet. And whenever in doubt, defer to the skip.

It doesn’t look like Team Fleury has a coach but having one might be a good idea. Tracy looked totally at a loss after that time out. Yes the front end needs to be quiet...note team Jones...that front end nods in agreement and won’t let Jen change her mind.

i agree with you on one thing. edin just comes off as very arrogant. the entire team actually. i have no desire to watch either final. was pulling for fleury and mouat in those semis

got to say though that once again jen comes and proves why you can never write her off..which someone on here has done multiple times this season alone

these slams have been fun to follow so far simply because of the unpredictability this season. dunstone and fleury winning the openers

Edin, Epping, Homan and Dunstone are cut from the same cloth. They all think that they can win by relying on the "big shot" ( doubles, triples, raises etc) to bail them out. Many teams have won big events by knowing when to bail out and take their one.

you can throw mouat in with them. mouat will look for that big shot quite often

the thing is edin has learned to draw and has learned softer weight. mouat and dunstone still dont seem to have a clue. oh, they can make the occasional big draw but 8 times out of 10 if you ask mouat or dunstone to draw they're gonna miss and i think teams out there know this by now.

that being said i do find mouat and the team to be really grounded and humble compared to edin and i'll say the same in regard to epping and homan. this is why i enjoy watching them for the most part. edin not at all

they do say that with success comes arrogance but i look at teams like howard, koe, gushue, homan, jones and i dont see them having that same heir of arrogance about them that the edin team does

nice F bomb dropped by edin after the miss in 6 by the way

Off the ice Epping is one of the nicest athletes out there. Always willing to help local curling events. Mouat are a nice group of men. Edin, I’ll have to agree with all of you. But when you don’t have to battle to get to the Olympics & Worlds...I guess you can afford to be arrogant.

Is it my imagination or does Kaitlyn look a bit unstable during delivery?

Fujisawa just spectacularly positive! Truly inspiring!

Uh oh looks like you were right...let’s hope Jen can turn it around in the last half
