That better be the flipping 4:30 game this afternoon.

:-) Great!

One of my favorite parts of the Scotties this year was the coverage of the Sasketchewan team. At various points when they were covering team Anderson, they would talk about how the team was put together. And they were very polite in how they said it but it always came down to each individual member saying something like "Nancy took me out drinking and I agreed to join the team."

So I have a soft spot for team Martin, as I have to assume I know how the doubles team came together years ago.

Plus, she's not one of the hot shot professionals, but she's on the edge of "good enough to win it." I mean, at a casino she'd be like 30-1. I'd totally put $100 those odds.

Does anyone know where the teams stand with the LSD? Four teams are already finished at 4-2 but I believe the two with the largest LSD are already eliminated.

NL looking good to advance at 4-2 with the best draw total of teams that could finish 4-2

they're on the curling canada site

but i have taken a look at the lsd and compiled a list of the top 12 in order

Peterman/gallant
Einarson/Gushue
Walker/Muyres
Mitchell/Smith
Meilleur/Nichols
Tran/Sluchinski
Sahaidak/Lott
Birchard/Schneider
Karwacki/Samagalski
Jones/Everist
Jones/Laing
Tuck/Tuck

now, obviously some of these dont matter because some of these teams are out. it boed well for birhcard/schneider if they can win their last game because, based off lsd they'd be one of the next 8 best as would weagle and epping

I'm only using the female's names for ease of typing here.. Here's the situation if Walker wins - based on last stone tiebreak for seeding after head to head breaks pool ties...

If Walker wins...
#1 Walker
#2 Peterman
#3 Jones
#4 Schmeimann

Then the last pool winner
#5 Miskew
And the next 7
#6 Einarson
#7 Sahaidak
**#8 Sweeting
#9 Weagle
#10 Mitchell
#11 Tran
#12 Winner of Karwacki v. Birchard

If Sweeting loses, she moves to the bottom, 9-12 move up one, and depending on Sweeting's draw to the button - it's between her and Njegovan for the last spot.

If Walker loses and Martin wins...

#1 Peterman
#2 Jones
#3-4-5 Jones/Schmeimann/Martin based on the Martin team draw to the button today

And the next 7
#6 Einarson
#7 Walker
#8 Sahaidak
**#9 Sweeting
#10 Weagle
#11 Mitchell
#12 Tran

If Sweeting loses, she's out, 10-12 move up one and the winner of Karwacki v. Birchard is #12

At least, I think that's what I've figured out.

She briefly talked about her partnership with Griffith in the pre-game interview before a crazy game vs Homan/Morris last year.

Only CC could come up with a playoff scenario where a team that won their group ends up in the same spot as 3rd place teams. Easily avoidable too but I'm sure they had a 10 person committee enjoying a catered meeting while they came up with this joke.

Val is playing tremendous early, and the Kennedy/Sweeting pair works together like they’ve been doing this for years.

Epping is trying to get Weagle to throw the shots he would throw, and it’s a train wreck.

Epping/Weagle would benefit tremendously by immediately switching epping to 1/5, in my opinion. Epping can skip a great game, but he’s not skipping it for weagle to throw the finishing shot. If he’s not going to do that, he should just throw fifth. Now. In the third end.

My theory (no evidence, unfortunately) is that pairing two vices together is best for team dynamics.

The vice in a regular 4-person team tends to be the most diplomatic. It's the bridge between frontend and backend, and they're usually handling measurements and other interactions with opposing team/officials, etc. It's really hard to be a good vice, beyond just athleticism and shooting abilities. They also need to have good understanding of team dynamics, people skills, diplomacy, psychology, etc.

Thus, my theory is that if you put two vices together into a mixed doubles team, you'll probably have pretty good team dynamics almost instantly.

Weagle and epping doing a good job of turning this around. I agree that sometimes the dynamic with them can seem weird but its also obvious that lisa trusts john and really believes what he's saying. ultimately do work well together

Kennedy a top 3rd (many championship rings) vs. Epping (a top 3rd with limited championship hardware) is about even. Both guys can toss big weight, both guys capable of nuanced shots.

Sweeting vs Lee Weagle is not. Val an established 3rd now with many years of provincial championship acumen vs. the world's greatest lead, who doesn't have the greatest curling mind and will have to be coached up immensely by Epping to even give Val & Mark a decent match. Weagle lucky on end 1 as she dumps her in-turn slash, ticks a long front-guard and only gives up a steal of 2 to Val. Could easily have been 4 if Mark allows any brushing whatsoever.

Birchard vs. Miskew should end up as the feature once Weagle bombs out early.

you're also implying that he is right most of the time and he's not

oh dont give that ****. you simply dont respect weagle and epping. you totally undervalued them, in particular lisa. you just assumed she couldnt stand up to val but you were wrong

saying this was going to be a blowout had nothing to do with being bold, it had nothing to do with courage.sweeting and kennedy were the favorites for most. nice try though

that steal of 2 for kennedy/sweeting could turn out to be huge here. they've both done a good job forcing the other team with hammer

There is no malice involved. Weagle is a hall of fame player. Her & Epping make for a great team - hope they continue to play and evolve!

you're right, lisa doesnt play a lot of high, hard shots but with the position she throws here she doesnt have to. she'll throw mostly draws and soft weight shots and in that regard she's better than val and it made the matcup tighter

Not always, but usually, the team with the best female curler wins. Check the stats, check the "analytics". The winning team needs someone who can MAKE the last shot. We will see how it unfolds, but my money is on the ladies who are able to make the LAST SHOT. Go ladies go. Still, Go Peterman Gallant Go

I'll try my hand at picking winners this morning:

Walker/muyres def. Weagle/Epping.

Much as I want to be wrong walker and muyres look very strong here. I dont know if lisa and John are strong enough to stop them

Schneider/birchard def. Morris/schmieman

Sahaidak/Lott def. Peterman/gallant

Jones/laing def. Gushue/einarson

I’d love to see Sahaidak/Lott win the championship. They’ve been curling together for awhile and their main focus is mixed doubles. It would be nice to see a dedicated team be successful.

What is the rule on the hog line? Does the rock have to be released before its front edge reaches the line or does the whole rock have to cross the line for it to be pulled. Maybe my eyes are going but last couple days I swear I've seen rocks not released until they were on top of the line.
