Early Odds for Manitoba Olympic Teams

Womens - 13 teams in running in early qualification plus 3 already have spots in actual trial event. Those 3 are Kerri Einarson, Tracy Fleury & Jennifer Jones.

Obviously, those are the 3 teams with the highest chances of capturing the coveted Olympic spot. Of the 3 already in I'd rate their odds of winning as follows:

1. Kerri Einarson - 30%
2. Tracey Fleury - 20%
3. Jennifer Jones - 10%

I'd give the rest of the field, obviously to include Rachel Homan, Laura Walker & the Alberta sister act the other 40% of the bet, with the majority of the points on Homan.

Would have rated Einarson a bit higher after she carved up Homan in 2 straight STOHs but her warts & deficiencies began to surface at the worlds where she suddenly morphed into a jittery mess of nerves - and low shot percentages.

Fleury easily #2 of the Manitoba teams. A very proficient strategist with above average shot-making skills. Just not enough shots to go along with the strategy immo.

Jones is now a grizzled & gnarled 48 yr old veteran, bringing in a fine group of curlers. The secret to beating JJ is not so secret. Just wait for her to self-implode, she usually does. Jen doesn't have the crazy magic anymore. Great strategy but her team's rock placement doesn't accommodate the strategy, often leaving JJ in peril when not having last bricks - often in trouble when possessing last stone. Perennial all-star 3rd Kaitlyn Lawes at times looked distraught or disinterested playing with her erratic skip. Peterman has never been able to fill the shoes of former Jones lieutenant Jill Officer. Great pair of leads on hand - but leads do not make the skip - especially when the skip's initials are J.J.

Of the remaining Manitoba teams trying to sneak into the Trials - I'd favor Beth Peterson at this point; with Abby Ackland a step behind.

Word of warning re: Jones. Don't totally rule her out. She's still a dangerous striker who, in the heat of battle and with nothing to lose could upend applecart - if she somehow can get on a roll.
