Trial rule changes for 2022 Worlds

“ These rules changes are set to be trialled at the World Juniors, World Women’s and World Men’s Curling Championships during the 2021–2022 season if approved by the Members. This trial over three events allows their impact on ten-end games to be fully assessed.

The three suggested rules are:

1) Thinking Time per end will replace the current Thinking Time rules: Four minutes per end for the first five ends, then four minutes 15 seconds for the remaining ends will be allowed. If a team runs out of time during one end, the other team will be allowed to deliver their remaining stones, provided they can do so within their remaining time, then the end score will be calculated. If they also run out of time, then the score will be calculated at the point where the second team runs out of time.

2) No tick shot rule: If a stone is touching the centre line within the free guard zone it may not be moved off the centre line by an opponent’s stone until after the fifth stone of the end has been played. If it is moved, then the delivered stone will be removed and the moved stone replaced by the non-offending team to the position prior to the violation.
3) No extra ends in the round robin stage: A team winning a game will receive three points for the win. If a game is tied each team will select one player to play a draw to the button; the team closest to the button will receive two points the other team will receive one point. The standings for the round robin will be calculated first on the total number of points gained by the teams. If two or more teams have the same number of points, the team with the greater number of wins within ten ends will be ranked higher, if the teams are still tied then the normal World Curling Federation ranking rules will apply.”

I am pretty meh on change 1. It does add a lot more onus on timers in these events because seconds will matter in every end.

On change 2 I like it a lot.

Change 3 I feel should have been 2 points for a win and 1 pt for both teams in a tie with no draw shot tiebreaker or go with the 2/1 pts but award the 2 pts to the team that didn’t start the game with hammer. Draw shot tiebreaker is just a meaningless way to determine a winner.

Curious to see if Curling Canada will adopt these trial rules for the Scottie’s and Brier.

For change 1, I'm less meh and more nay. Not being able to bank time for later ends will mean more rushed decisions/play at time when teams are more likely to end up in messy ends. Having done timing for the Ontario Tankard, I can say that it shouldn't affect a timer doing their job properly.

Change 2. This seems like one that will make the game more interesting to watch if teams try to play aggressively or from behind. Players at the top level are just so darn good at those tick shots!

On change 3, I agree that if there is no extra end, there shouldn't be a point for a draw to the button, just go with 2pts win, 1pt tie, 0pts loss. Wouldn't want to see the team that lost hammer to start the game be rewarded more than the other team for a tie though, so can't get behind op second suggestion.

FIFA

Compare to FIFA making or imposing rules, whilst getting paid to do so....... why change for the sake of change....money. It’s all about the money. Things that make you say hmmmm. I don’t get it. Crazy. Somebody has the screws twisted in.
The real question is who and why? Somebody is getting greased, but who?
Full disclosure, conspiracy theorist. But seriously, why?
With no players consulted. I’d ask who represented Canada in this WCF decision. Stand up and explain why you agreed to this. And why.

successful

Following successful completion of the learner's permit stage, drivers often graduate to a provisional or intermediate license. This phase may have restrictions, such as limits on the number of passengers and driving hours. https://journals.eco-vector.com/RCF...ew/7721/0/68351
