Worlds Sans Russia
Politics aside - if possible - it is really a new mix, especially in the big European events, like Perth Masters, and European Championships, to not have any Russian teams competing. Especially on the women's side. I don't think it is a big enough imbalance to warrant an **asterisk, but their absence is felt. Also, when all of these sanctions and this political interference ends, will these athletes have to start in group C again, and will they have relinquished all of their competition points to the annals of time? Life does sometime get in the way. They will focus on the comeback era. I wish all the Russian curling athletes well.

Those are all decisions to be made by whatever curling body is in place at the time when such conditions are met, not by anyone at this particular time.

For what it's worth, Russia has been streaming their events, per usual.
https://www.youtube.com/@RussianCurlingTv/streams
Also, China was relegated to B for withdrawing from 2022 PCCC. That would also relegate Russia to B for now. It would have to be another year missed for either to be relegated to C.
From B, it would have to be another year to compete in A and qualify for Worlds and Olympics. In other words, best case scenario for China/Russia is 2025 World Men's/Women's. Lots of time lost, for sure.
I think China and Russia would probably return in World Mixed Doubles (2024) before World Men's/Women's (2025).

I missed that China was out of the loop. Was that a COVID thing? It is hard on the athletes. I guess the 2026 Olympics are still possible if everything goes right for them. But it is not a great time for curling athletes in those countries. :-(

Honestly I was wondering if defection might be coming for curlers in CHN and RUS.
Sarasadat Khademalsharieh is an Iranian chess player who protested by refusing to play with a hijab, and last I checked, she will be defecting to Spain. Fellow Iranian chess player Alireza Firouzja protested by choosing to play against Israelis, and he defected to France.
Obviously this is much bigger issue than I can ever truly appreciate, but in my imagination, I hope that some of the best Chinese and Russian athletes can safely defect and play for other countries if opportunities arise.

The issue is that the Russian government gets at least a portion of the money they earn so there's that issue.

In a perfect world, I agree. In this one, I do not. Because in this world, there is money involved, and there are entities with the money that curling needs that would take the non-refusal of Russian athletes as implicit approval of the Russian government, and would use that as a reason to withhold such money.
Just look what happened when they tried allowing a sex toy manufacture to rent advertising space on and around the rink during the OQE.

International competition is one of the benefits you get from a peaceful world order.
When one country literally tries to exterminate a neighbouring nation they lose those perks.
If Russia wants their athletes back in international competitions they can stop trying to commit genocide.
