Idiot comment -- women come in all shapes and sizes and all can curl.

How's your beer league doing this season so far?

Back to curling? Can Mouat continue their winning streak? Edin looked very average at the Masters and Epping what has happened to that team?

The women are more of a guess. Tirazoni did not qualify for the final. Jones did but I think her team needs to let her call the game.

Looks like Bottcher is recovering from the America’s Challenge 10-1 to Schwaller… yikes. And Epping? Just sad

"Wisdom is born of mistakes".

I agree that if there are professional women curling athletes on the world curling tour who could possibly benefit from a weight loss program, it is irrelevant and definitely none of my business.

My apologies.

Wow, a non-apology, apology. Like all those "I'm sorry if anyone was offended by my comments" non-apologies. Insincere.

Actually I accept the apology/admit mistake. Many of us, me included have said things here over the years we may have liked to back peddle and try again. Well said Deliverer, Welcome back.

PS. How many here can say they never left comments unbecoming? Nuff said.

In general, this is still a pretty bull**** comment. The idea that "weight loss" is the solution when in reality athletes get stronger by adding muscle.

This whole idea that you think they need to lose weight is the same bull**** comments men like like make about women in general.

There are many female curlers that don't meet your ideal body image considerations though being "lighter" isn't something that outright helps in curling.

Having a little body mass can be very beneficial on the sweeping side and just because someone is "bigger" than your ideal, doesn't mean they're not fit either.

Each team in consideration at the top of the game is doing everything necessary to be the best they can be.

Commenting on athletes' weight is not helpful and just makes you look bad.

I agree that deliverers first comment was asinine, and his empty apology made it worse.
Now, I don’t know deliverers history, so I can’t comment on that.
However, there is a member here that is persistent in his derogatory comments toward women. Admin have never addressed his comments. Ever.
Makes you wonder.

In total agreeance. If we are to make curling a truly inclusive sport, it should include a good look at some media sources.

Paragraphs about the ladies teams but no chapters for the struggling mens teams. Hmm.

Yes what is with team Epping? That game vs McEwen was just a sad effort. Fry is usually pretty animated and active out there but was very subdued. Laing wasn't trying to skip the game like he usually does. Maybe it was just an off week, maybe they are just focused on the trials. Get the feeling that if they don't win the trials they may not be together come Brier time.

They were also eliminated early from the Masters.

So are we in agreement that Epping would not serve Canada well at the Olympics?

Actually I think they would be fine. Fry and Laing have been there and the whole team would obviously be a ton more focused than they have been lately. He has had trouble winning the big game but they are top 10 in the world for a reason.

This may be first Olympics where Canada will not be top 2 favorites on either side. On women's Tirizoni and Hasselborg will be favored over any Canadian entry and on the men's Edin and Mouat will be favored over any except maybe Koe and Gushue. Perhaps slightly lower expectations will allow the teams to breathe a little easier and play without all the pressure of gold or nothing.

Yep, when did it change? Russ Howard did the same thing de Cruz does, calls game plays front end but Gushue is considered the skip of the gold medal winner.
Is it the team's choice perhaps?

Grand Slam has different rules for naming teams. In 2019 Champions Cup, Team Hasselborg had no Anna Hasselborg, who wasn't even in the same country. They were skipped by Eve Muirhead.

Similarly, Team Shuster had no John Shuster, who also was across the ocean in a completely different continent. They were skipped by John Morris.

That will never fly in WCF events, which has rigorous rules that names teams after the skips. WCF also defines the skip as the person in charge of the house when the rest of the team are shooting. The vice skip then is the person in charge of the house when the skip is shooting.

In official WCF and IOC records, the skip of the 2006 Olympic champions is Russ Howard, not Brad Gushue.

https://digital.la84.org/digital/co...coll8/id/61788/

Curling Canada changed its rules to match WCF in 1978, but some people just don't give a damn and just make up their own "rules" on who a team's skip is.

The winner of Canadian Olympic Trials for 2006 was Team Gushue, only because the decision to put Howard as skip came at the last minute. According to Curling Canada's own rules, that was technically Team Howard.

Mouat makes mince meat out of Bottcher. May be already staking his claim to the Olympic Gold.
