I need a signal system for weights

So...I have been informed that my communication regarding weights (particularly for takeouts) is lacking (let's not discuss exactly how said informing occurred...)

I need a pointer to a relatively simple signalling system for desired weight. I have had issues seeing consistency within skips at my club.

Anyone have any ideas?

my teams have three hit weights. bumper/board weight, your normal and peel. so here are my signals.
bumber/board weight i tap my hip or but.
your normal, different for each player on my team, but their normal, is a hand to the heart.
peel is sticking my hand straight out above my head. hardly ever call that.
if i give no signal i awesome you will give me your normal.
hope this helps some.

Our competetive team indicates all weight calls by touching a certain part of the arm.

Control - The wrist
Normal - The elbow
Peel - The shoulder

Then if we want a little more than normal we would touch the elbow and slide our hand towards the shoulder.

We find this system allows for definate call of control, normal and peel but also for wieghts that would be part way between one of these calls.

Hope this helps!

We also use the wrist = control, elbow = normal, shoulder = peel, foot = hack.

All the above are excellent! You want to keep the weight calling simple. Don't get into the number system that the top teams use. It's like learning another language and will just be confusing.

I touched my knee for hack, hip for board, stomach for light hit, chest for full hit and shoulder for peel.

Your question brought up the lack of consistancy within the skips of your own club. That is "a bridge too far". Each skip will develop his/her own signals and only those that frequently play on that team will truly know. Asking all the skips to conform to one system ignore the true nature of skips.

Couldn't agree more as to keeping it simple, especially for league play. The big-3 (bumper, control, normal) is a great starting point and should only take about 2 minutes to get everyone on the same page at the beginning of the season. This will cover about 95% of all situations.
