Dominion Club Curling Playdowns - Ontario
Ontario playdowns for the DCCC start this weekend. Any thoughts on who may make it. Former National champ - Kelly Cochrane is in it again this year - could she repeat? Any elites taking their club teams this year?

It appears that the majority of the "elites" have taken the intent of the Dominion to heart (see oca web site rules) and the only "elite; names who seem to think it was morally ok to participate include, Goring, Rizzo, Balsdon and Higgs.

So is Rizzo missing the Manitoba Lotteries to play in the Dominion playdowns?

Balsdon plays with a club team, not his competitive rink.

None of them can play with their competitive team- that is in the rules. But do you really think that many truly club teams, would be able to compete against a skip with Balsdons experience. As usually there is following the "allowed rule" or following the "intended spirit of the competition".

Decade, you talk about morals.......what am I supposed to do morally when my team wins the men's championship at my club and the three other guys all want to go into the dominion playdowns? This team consists of myself and three club curlers and we meet the criteria of the competition. Trust me when I say that if I felt that my team would jeopardize the integrity of the competition we wouldn't be playing. So instead of just looking at one name and making an assumption......maybe get your facts straight before challenging my/other's integrity. Feel free to get my email from the OCA website and email me directly should you want to discuss this further.
Jake

This comes up every year and is a dumb argument.
Club curler does NOT mean bad curler! Club Curler is someone who plays league regularly with his or her team. Nothing to do with skill!
The "names" you see in The Dominion are the ones you should give EXTRA respect to since they support the club infrastructure and play with buddies to try and integrate them into the game. Offering them the experience of playing at a competitive level.

To add to Gerry's comments ... Balson and Higgs had to forego participation in OCT/WCT events in order to commit to their club team ... on Zone/Provincial/National dates, there are tour tournaments from which valuable CTRS points are potentially being passed on due to their Dominion participation.
I know ... we are not in just for that reason :-(
