Even as a neutral, watching the shot-by-shot was quite tense. I think CAN should be OK now although DEN and GER are still in contention. All credit to Team Einarson for the turnaround..

Yes, its looking like the same 6 nations in the playoffs as for the men. Another good championship for Europe and a poor one for Pacific-Asia.

When I click on that link you provided, I get the TSN schedule page, and it still lists coverage of two draws on Friday. I've refreshed it several times to be sure.

I've also searched the usual places that have kept us up to date on the broadcasting problems, and I see no new updates at those yet. Can you please recheck your sources and report back?

You're right that it's listing the games they already showed on the first weekend, but at the same time, they're only displaying the games that TSN is showing, which feature Team Canada. Team Canada is not scheduled to play on the Friday afternoon or evening draws, so you wouldn't expect them to be on that list.

Broadcasting may still be on the cards on the Youtube streams for Friday afternoon and evening. We'll see. There should be a new press release on this shortly.

Some hope

Basically has to win against China and hope both Germany and Denmark lose one more game each. One of them plays Muirhead, the other plays Tirinzoni I believe. So out of Einarson's hands but still possible. Hope I am right in my calculations.

Here is the best route for Canada to qualify. Obviously defeat China.

Canada has the head to head tiebreak against Denmark. Need Denmark to lose to either Estonia, Czechs or Scotland

Need Germany to lose to either Czechs or Swiss

Need Korea to lose to either Swedes or Czechs.

China would be eliminated in this scenario with a loss to Canada.

Seems very doable

Should be a very interesting final day of the RR. A great time for the TV coverage to come back and, bonus for me, Scotland's final game is being shown on the WCF feed.

Broadcasting confirmed to restart from tomorrow afternoon's session.

They will cover SUI vs Germany and Japan vs Estonia in the afternoon and Scotland vs China and Japan Sweden in the evening. I expect the final play off places won't be decided until after the final session as Scotland, China and Denmark are all in the mix.

They will then show one game in each session for the playoffs - so one qualification game (4vs 5 or 3 vs 6), each semi, the bronze and the final.

I assume this means there will be coverage on both the WCF you tube channel and TSN?

Not clear who is going to be commentating or whether WCF (who have Joan McCusker, Kevin Martin, Jill Officer) and TSN will pool commentating resources.

Tie break question

if Canada and Korea tie does the win over Korea count as the tie-breaker or does the better Draw Shot Total count?

Excluding defunct slams, she's the first women's team from Asia to make it to the final.

Kim Min-ji lost the 2020 Canadian Open final to Hasselborg.

Kim Chang-min lost 2017 National final to Mouat.

I'm not sure what other notable records are for Asian teams atthe slam (please let me know).

Head to head is the first tie breaker. DSC comes in when there is an unbreakable tie (A>B, B>C, C>A)

Other possibilities...

If RCF beat Scotland tonight then Scotland will be playing Denmark tomorrow with both teams having 5 losses. One of them goes to 6 losses and is potentially in a tie-break with Canada.

The U.S.also has to play RCF...could be at 6 losses.

I am getting a headache.

Given China, Scotland and Denmark still have 3 games to play (USA and Canada only have 1 more) there are too many permutations to stress about. So I would rest your head until tomorrow!

It may in fact look even messier after this evening's games assuming (as you would expect) Denmark beat Estonia, China beat Italy and RCF beat Scotland!

In terms of direct Olympic qualification from this event China's position is important - if they are top 6 only five (plus them as hosts) get Olympic slots with 4 then coming from the December qualifying event. If they don't all six do - and there are only 3 slots in December.

If I were a betting man I think it will be Scotland, USA and Canada making the playoffs and direct Olympic entry - with Denmark possibly replacing one of them!.

With the rescheduled draw 7, the Czech team will be curling all 3 draws tomorrow. The Danes will play a very tired opposition in what could be a very meaningful game.

When it comes to Olympic qualification Madeleine Dupont wants it real bad!

The 2017 game when she beat Italy in the final game of the Olympic qualifying event - on you tube - was absolutely brutal with several burnt rocks removed from play and an amazing final shot from her! She collapsed on her knees at the end of the game in floods of tears.

No one should rule out Denmark as you say - they should win 2 of their final 3 games and could easily beat Scotland in the third!

7-6 will get 6th place. It all comes down to head to head and then DSC.

So many permutations but, to emphasise how close it is, if:

USA lose to RCF
DEN lose to SCO but beat CZE
SCO beat DEN but lose to CHN
whatever happens with CAN v CHN
KOR beat CZE
GER beat CZE and SUI

then, by my reckoning, 6 teams would finish on 7-6. 🤨

Today

According to the TSN website they are broadcasting three games today. Canada v China, followed by Germany v Switzerland and a late game to be named later.

Best case Canada beats China and the Germans lose which likely gets Canada in.

Worst case Canada loses and ends up tied with Japan on losses which puts Canada in 11th place. If the Olympic qualifier is cancelled then only top 10 for his event get to the Olympics which would not include Canada. No pressure.

Re the Olympics its 9 qualifying teams plus China as hosts don't forget.

There has to be a qualifying event under the rules - and there is even a pre qualifier in October for teams not at the worlds this week which sends 2 teams to the qualifier.

There may only be seven or eight teams going for 3 or 4 places - good odds but no time to recover if you lose your first 3 games!

You really want to qualify this week if you can as the qualifier is brutal and could have several strong teams who just miss out this week (e.g. a few out of Scotland, US, Japan, Korea, Denmark and Germany could be there etc)

Just checked the DSC numbers for U.S. and Canada. Before today Canada had the lead..After this morning USA leads Canada. Not a good omen for Canada.

For Canada to make the playoffs I think it's a must that the Swiss beat Germany this aft.
Den 7-5 plays Cze
Can/Us 7-6
Sco 6-6 plays China
Kor 6-6 plays Cze
Ger 6-6 plays Switz
If it goes according to form (and nothing has this week) Denmark gets 4th at 8-5 and Can/US/Sco/Kor all finish tied at 7-6 for last 2 spots. If they use head to head among those teams Can/US are 2-1 and Sco/Kor are 1-2. If Ger beats Swiss they would also be 7-6 and 3-1 head to head with Can/US/Sco 2-2 Kor 1-3.
Going to be very interesting day. This is another place where Sportsnet has edge over TSN. Harris especially always has the playoff possibilities analyzed, Vic will just tell us it's a logjam.

Even though they can make 7-6 I don't see how Korea or Scotland make the play offs? So seems to me its likely Canada and USA - but Germany are in the mix if they beat Switzerland (not likely but possible!).
