Doesn't really answer many questions. Who are the teams going to be? Usually picked by provinces but some aren't even curling right now.

Maybe not McEwen. The article I read said there was no wild card playin game on the schedule so I don't know if McEwen gets in cuz he was WC last year or whether the WC has been ditched for this year.
I don't see Manitoba having playdowns this year even though they are scheduled for Selkirk so Gunnlaugson gets a return to the Brier.

Curious that 9 teams from 5 provinces go to hub in Calgary one the worst covid hot spots in Canada. Crazy with a capital C. For a supposed health and safety first, this is down right stupid. Why not pick a spot where there is single or double digits per day vs 1000 a day cases. Somewhere in the Atlantic makes much more sense, so long as incoming teams are pre-tested and tested daily and adhere to covid rules locally.

If anything, just shut it all down for the year. It's not like there'll be fans in the stands. Suck it up and take a year off. Is curling Canada that greedy they would risk the health and safety of the teams and fans all for the almighty dollar? The NFL is on line 2, saying hey, we thought we were the only ones willing to literally risk lives for profit.

Might be a little over the top, but, seriously, why risk it?

yeah, it makes total sense to pick one of canada's worst affected cities to hold that bubble. call me skeptical but i am not confidant at all that this will actually happen. wouldnt be surprised if the province does an about face and calls this off at some point

even if they dont that article doesnt actually answer many questions. there's a huge question mark around whether or not international teams will even be allowed in for the worlds or the grand slams.

not to mention what does qualification even look like for teams. without provincials you're looking at just calling back every team from last year, which is great for them but sucks for everyone else.

AB makes no sense. Kenney is in complete denial about the Covid pandemic. No masks, no restrictions, no support for the AMA, in general no guts.

I want curling to continue but you're taking a big risk here. I know hockey rid it in Alberta but that was at a time when things weren't that bad. On top of that I didn't see any kind of plan for what happens if there's a positive before or during these events

Curling won't get much revenue from holding an event with no fans so why not write the season off and try again next season when there's a vaccine and things are in better shape

To spite what tje curlers themselves will , im sure say curling is risky at this time. Close contact is almost inevitable and there's the volunteers to think of. Teams might be disciplined but will they

I agree. But I'm not sure curling Canada can afford to lose an entire season. They , I can't imagine have much money. Even lbless than the cfl. I'm sure money is the factor here. But , again I'm not sure how much they'll earn with no fans

Another obstacle in getting the teams here for worlds is that the border will still be closed. Pro athletes have gotten exempt.. the problem is curlers are not seen ad pro athletes by the majority

Not sure pro athletes are completely exempt. Raptors not playing in Toronto probably.

Yep, send them all to the new Covid central! Just send Einarson & Gushue to the worlds and figure out the Olympic trials later...if Canada doesn’t finish in the to 6, they don’t go to the Olympics anyway.

I'm a big curling fan but just don't see the upside in playing national championships this year.
Having said that, I am sure they will go on as the CCA are mostly incompetent and will not be able to withstand the pressure they will get from outside.
TSN is desperate for content and curling is a low cost, high ratings moneymaker.
The Brier is Tim Horton's big event.
The Scotties is Scott Paper's big event and they are one of the few companies that is making bank during the pandemic.
All of the above will be lobbying heavily and the CCA will put bucks first at the end of the day.

I agree , just send gushue and einarson. Give them the chance they didn't get last year.

I think what we will find is a lot of countries will likely just send last year's champions. With the exception of Asia, which have held national championships.

Provinces will probably do the same

Quebec right now will try to play shorter provincials and ask teams to write their curling CV's so they can pick their representatives if provincials can't happen. I'm sure it will be the same way in other provinces.

How many of them work from home? And if they can work from home, why couldn't they work from the hotel? So, it might not be as much as one would think.

i appreciate sportsnet showing games from up to 5years ago. it seems like TSN has a short memory. they've basically showed the same 5 games over and over again

the scotties finals and briers finals of the last 2 years and 2018 womens worlds final

i mean, i know TSN only fairly recently took curling over but they could go as far back as 2008 if they wanted to . they just dont seem to want to for some reason

I too wish there was a little more variety in what they are showing during this time of no live curling. There are a couple of Youtube Channels with plenty of old games that I've been diving into to supplement my curling addiction. I've recently been watching old TSN Skins games and it's amazing to see how much the game really has changed yet how much is still the very same.

As for the topic at hand, as an aspiring Brier participant in a "have-not" curling province, I can assure you most competitive curlers want this to happen. Calgary was an obvious/easy choice despite the rising cases, as it's likely one of the only provinces that would allow it and is "Central" to what Curling Canada deems as it's base. I think you'd be hard pressed to find many competitive curlers that aren't excited about this and think it can be pulled off safely and effectively. The info we've received from our MA and Curling Canada is promising and I think most players would jump at taking off 3-4 weeks for an opportunity to play in what may be the most memorable Brier of all time, for unfortunate reasons. What's more unfortunate is that many great teams will not have the opportunity to play down to get into this event, but that's the least of bad things Covid has brought to our world.

Bring on the Bubble!
