You are exactly right. I'm a senior and I have never had a flu shot (or had the flu in 30 years) but I will take the covid one when it comes.
People need to understand that the flu shot is basically a scientific guess because the flu is always evolving. The experts sample the flu when it starts and then create the vaccine they think will work best as they need time to manufacture millions of doses. By the time it hits Canada the flu has changed and in past years the vaccines effectiveness has been variable. 2 or 3 years ago it was under 20%. The covid doesn't seem, to be changing like the flu (although it may be too early to tell)
As you point out, covid is more deadly than the flu so I will take the vaccine. Fauci says the first vaccine will probably only be 70% effective but that's good enough for me and I'll take my chances that Bill Gates isn't using it to implant a control chip in me as is being claimed by the people I see on the news at anti-everything rallies.

Canada Covid - 19 Alert

Yesterday I received a News Release from the office of the Premier of Ontario, as did all Ontario subscribers, encouraging us to download their Covid Alert app which has been specifically designed to notify users if and when they have been in proximity to another app user who has been confirmed to have Covid - 19.

This new Bluetooth-based Covid - 19 tracing app was developed in Canada and is scheduled to be rolled out across Canada - from sea to sea to sea- next week. To learn more about the objective, scope, how the app works, privacy analysis etc., google " COVID Alert: Exposure notification."

Don't know if our friends in the US are working on this same sort of things, but let's hope so.

In any case, seems to me as if Canada just scored an Eight Ender!

Too many Americans think the confederate flag will innoculate them . . . if not that, pure ignorance!

My guess and its just a guess is that if the vax is available to at least 200 million of its 320 million population - nearly 100 million will take the vaccine . . . . almost 50% of those eligible to take it.

In Canada - where the virus hasn't ravaged the population like it has down south - I'd say 55 to 65% of eligible canadians will take it.

not surprised. the world junior are set to be held in china are they not?. im not sure how they expect that to happen. there's about a 90% chance that's gonna get cancelled too in my view

the problem curling faces is the same one tennis and baseball do. its very hard to create a bubble because the sport is based on travel. you cant do what hockey is doing and play the entire season in 1 place

with the border being closed to all non essential travel the american teams wont be able to come up to play the canadian spiels

european and asian teams may have to choose to ither stay home and play local or come here but im not even sure how many events there will be

Prolly time to concede defeat for balance of 2020 and much of 2021 to the coronavirus.
We have a choice.
We can revert to the curling of the 1920s, 30s, 40s & most of the 50s - where international curling was nearly an unknown, unthought of concept.
Lots of history - where we can stand on the shoulders of giants like Howard Wood, Ken Watson, Gowanlock, Jimmy Welsh, Gordon Hudson. Congalton, Billy Rose & Matt Baldwin.
Make our provincial titles count more than a quarter-final for a world title.
Make our Briers & Scotties into special events like they were revered for in the early days.
Make 2-person curling rise to prominence.
No doubt about it - curling clubs, particularly in Ontario & Quebec will be lucky to get off a schedule in the remainder of 2020.
But the small towns, relatively unaffected virus areas like Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northern Ont, Alberta & most of Maritimes can still produce some tingling curling events.

DON'T GIVE UP - DON'T GIVE IN - BUT DON'T GET TOO ARROGANT AROUND THIS VIRUS - OR IT WILL KILL YOU . . . .

Yeah, I do think curling within Canada and possibly even all together will have to be localized. But what exactly a calendar looks like I have no idea. If the big events arent going I struggle to see how many smaller ones will

I agree legend, I think, as much as I would miss it it's best to call off the cash season anyway. It's far to risky to have teams constantly coming in and out. Have we learned nothing from baseball?

Curling doesn't have the money that hockey does so its not like they could create a bubble for the teams either. Its cost far to much. Although if they were truly desperate to hold the brier and scottie next year I could see them using the scenario many have predicted will happen and just invite the Canada cup teams

Investigate the app Ontario is touting very carefully. If your phone is over 5 years old, the app is useless. Unless you have downloaded a recent OS, the app is useless. Only if the person who is diagnosed enters the info in their phone will you get alerts. If you have switched off Blue tooth ( to save battery life)_the app is useless Too many variables to put much faith in the app.
