Definitely canned.

Rachel & M must be blaming their loss in the final on Li . . . . was she that badly out-curled by Brianne Meilleur?

Quite the shocker with Weagle.
My two cents: this is about the bigger and stronger you are the more effective your sweeping is. Look at the top men's teams and you have monsters on the front end, Gallant, Thiessen, Flasch, Harndens, the list is long. Weagle is nowhere near as muscular as Courtney and that is the type of player Homan will replace her with. You can teach someone to shoot and sweeping technique, you can't teach size.

Maybe the team is going to play out of Alberta with Emma as the import.

So Rachel Holman cans the highest percentage shooter on her team and published a bland, self serving press release that states nothing.

Holman, you've finally shown your true colors by making your lead a scapegoat. Well done. Hope you can sleep at night after stabbing your lead in the back rather than admitting your a choker.

Just because you're big and strong it does NOT make you a good sweeper. Hebert and Flasch were terrible. Sweep like hell and then koe yells whoooaaaaa. And it goes deep. A much better sweeper can tell you top 4 out of your hand and finishes top 4. (Gallant) ....Hebert strong sweeper, terrible judge of weight. Highly thought of because of having kennedy and laing judging the weight, and he sweeps. Similar to weagle, greatest tick shooter ever, and tells Courtney when to sweep. The ability to sweep is great, but who cares if you sweep it 2 feet deep.

Wonder if some of those critiquing Rachel for this also critiqued Epping for dropping Craig from the team, or still bitter over Jones dropping Cathy O. Team changes happen, it's sport.

Neither were done MID Olympic cycle. Both were the end of the 4 year cycle. Yes it sucks when players are dumped, but to dump the best player at their position makes everyone say hmm. We'll
see if more unfolds.

In fairness - Weagle is no longer best at her position. Several women leads have proven better than her.

Rachel may be looking at this from a far different perspective we are. Her perspective relates only to winning.

Courtney is now the best 2nd in Canadian womens curling (Shannon Birchard a very close #2); Emma is arguable the best 3rd although Val Sweeting gave her a run for her money, especially in the STOH final.

Dawn is still the best lead in the women's game - although her lead continues to decrease.

Kaitlyn no longer the top 3rd - or even in a deadlock with Miskew. Part of Lawes' problem is her skip giving her increasingly tougher degree of difficulty shots.

Top female shooters in Canada:
SKIP POSITION
1. Rachel Homan
2. Kerri Einarson
3. Tracy Fleury
4. Jennifer Jones/Krista McCarville (tie)
5. Robyn Silvernagle
6. Case Schiedigger
7. Chelsea Carey
8. Laura Walker
9. Corryn Brown
9. Andrea Crawford
10. Maryanne Arsenault/Sherry Anderson (tie)

Laura Walker probably will not join Team Homan. She was borderline retired, and she needs teammates that understand her priorities, one of which is to start a family.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/curling/in...scotties-dream/

Homan would probably require a much stronger commitment to the team's "relentless pursuit of excellence" (their own words).

World will move on

Dont havve to go to another jets game for $500 per night ,

Gushue and erickson are big winners this year - brier and scott .. finish on top without the dissappointment of a loss in the “ who cares_ not me “ worlds

Wont miss nba nfi and 3x a night nhl - even a t $5m /yr it cant be any fun to play 80 or 100 games a yr - every single night traveling

Cancel tsn , rsn, free press , netflicks , cnn, - maybe all cable tv - and buy a new car and go out for a hot dog at skinners

Best of all no olympics that really arent like they used to be

Very Best of all no usa politics and unfunny late night shows

Top it off with a few bargain stocks

Lisa you shud retire , you wont miss curling for one second - have a great summer away from people that dont curl for fun anymore ...

Really ML? She was voted all star lead at this years Scottie’s. You shouldn’t need great big muscle women to sweep your rock, just throw the right weight.

Yes it was quite the surprise to hear Lisa getting the boot. However, I don’t know if there was a personality conflict within the team that prompted the decision. Still it sucks to be let go on a team where Lisa has obviously contributed immensely to the success of the team. Lisa was a player who NEVER expressed frustrations during a game. Utmost respect for that trait. Still, she has achieved way more that 98% of curlers so retiring now might be a great change for her. I don’t see her playing on another team since it would only be a step down.

Replacing Lisa with Sarah would be a step down for team Homan. No comparison between the two.

Didn't know LIsa was still top statistical lead at this year's STOH.

Just remembering Meilleur not only standing up to her but exceeding her in the final. Prolly the straw that broke the camel's back immo.

Agree with most that Lisa Weagle was targeted as the official scapegoat.

Other than their obvious ultra-focus and relentless pursuit of squashing opponents Team Homan lacked at one obvious thing. They were dour & listless during games - trained to do so. Lisa appeared to be the most dour cuz she seldom spoke up other than to provide weight ideas to Rachel in the hack. Emma & Rachel always the most vocal, but mostly matter of fact. Courtney still sucks up to Rachel - as she skids to the scoreboard to chat with her skip at some point during every end.

But no fireballs and spirit-boosters on that team.

Jones used to have Officer.
Michelle Englot is a firecracker.
Val & Kerri a bit dour but have the best and most spirited front end in Shannon & Brianne.
Carey has a good front end but very humorous and focused on the game.
Trace Fleury has Selena who's fairly spirited.
Finally, Laura Walker had a 3rd who while no longer a great shooter, is as spirited and emotional as they come in Kate Cameron.

I like Team Homan and I'm really sorry that Lisa will no longer be part of it. It's a great loss to the team whatever the reason. Posters seem to be jumping to conclusions because they either don't like the team or they don't like Rachel which I really don't get - because she doesn't smile a lot? Really? Do you ask the men's teams to smile? The double standard is alive and well. Is it because she invited Joanne to play with them when Alison left? Well my comment is, there has been only one Homan change in the last 10+ years. That implies a very loyal person not only in view of her long association with her current team mates, but also the Kreviasuk sisters and with former teammates like Laura Crocker Walker.

I saw Rachel and Lisa together at the Briar last Wednesday, so whatever took place has probably been in the works for awhile and the team is at peace with it or they wouldn't have been there together. That's the only conclusion I'm leaping to, but I wish Lisa all the best in whatever her future holds and the same for Team Homan.

Not so fast. Sarah has tons of cred as a 3rd, also a second if memory serves.

She's actually younger than the 30/31 yr olds remaining on Team Homan.

She'd be an ideal pick-up for Team Homan - almost seamless!

Physically she's probably the 2nd strongest woman in Canadian curling (behind only Courtney)

That really cripples Carey who now has to advance to another Scotties by going thru Alberta - which may include hotshots like Laura Walker, Kelcey Roque, Scheidegger, etc.

Here's a link to some knowledgeable curling fans in Sask'n who think Homan & Courtney will shift their base of operations to Alberta next year, bring in Miskew as their import curler and find an Alberta player to replace Weagle.

https://www.riderfans.com/forum/for...scotties/page14

Tend to agree. Although the downstroke of such a move is having to fight thru a solid group of very good teams to get back to the Scotties.

Although if Homan picks up Sarah from Team Carey, as expected she'll strengthen her team while leaving Chelsea crippled.

Yes, no more Ontario auto-berth but so what? Homan will be the favorite to emerge from Alberta vs. quality teams like Roque, Walker, Schiedegger & Carey, not to mention a couple up 'n comers.

The team that Homan beat in the 2020 Ontario Scotties final, Team Hollie Duncan, has lost their skip.

Per twitter, 'Team Duncan wishes to thank our sponsors, friends, and family for their support over the last 2 years. Next season Hollie has decided to step away from the team to pursue new opportunities. We wish her all the best. Laura, Cheryl, and Karen are exploring opportunities.'

In the delightful Stone & Straw podcast interview, Chelsea says that age gap and philosophical differences are some of the reasons why her 2014-2015 teammates (Jen Gates, Taylor MacDonald, Laura Walker) dropped her after just one season.

https://stoneandstraw.libsyn.com/s01e02-chelsea-carey @ 38m20s re: team changes

That team then picked Kelsey to be their skip, and they stayed together for 3 seasons.

Game philosophies do evolve, and age gap may matter less the older you are, but still, I don't think it's very likely for Chelsea to play with Kelsey given this backstory.

I'm a sucker for a good story so if Rachel somehow abandoned her Ontario auto-berth and set up shop in Alberta I'd love to see Lisa pick up some good curlers and either call the game and throw 3rd or lead stones - perhaps with a strong curler like Sarah Wilkes returning to Ontario.

If Rachel moves and with Hollie Duncan stepping away, the Ontario auto-berth would be up for grabs.

Love to see Lisa make her way back to the STOH as a named skip of the Ontario team. Can u imagine the cheers she'd get for her courage?

Ah, but there is !

Why is it that nobody but nobody has yet to suggest the possibility that Lisa's replacement may be Joanne Courtney ?

Stay tuned.
