By Connor Simms, The #11 Year-to-date (YTD) ranked Brad Jacobs (Edmonton, AB) with Marc Kennedy at third, Brett Gallant and Ben Hebert on the front end continue to stay hot on the 'Rock. Jacobs took on this team after they parted ways with Brendan Bottcher. Despite a slower start to the season than expected, they have been on a roll lately, qualifying for two grand slam playoff appearances and an event win at the Nufloors Penticton Classic. Jacobs(3-0) took on Stirling's James Craik(1-2), losing the opening draw to the button for the hammer. After a light draw to four foot, Jacobs stole three points in the first end. Adding another steal of one after Craik missed the pin. Craik found a deuce in the second end with a wide-open hit and stick. However, it did not take long for Jacobs to regain his lead, making a lightweight takeout around a guard for three. In the fifth end, Craik made a brilliant runback triple to add three points of his own. Again, Jacobs responded by making another light-weight takeout for another three points, resulting in handshakes and a 10-5 victory. Jacobs defeated Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) 7-1 in their opening game, then won 5-4 against Magnus Ramsfjell (Trondheim, NOR). Jacobs will take on Joel Retornaz (Cembra, ITA) Friday at 8:30 am Mountain Time (noon Newfoundland Time). All the round-robin action continues through Friday evening, with the quarter-finals and semi-finals on Saturday. The finals will be the lone games on Sunday.
