Rachel Homan (photo: Michael Burns/Curling Canada) and her team secured Canada's first ever trip to the final at the Pan Continental Championships Friday night. Rachel Homan and her team out of the Ottawa Curling Club booked their spot in the finals at the 2024 Pan Continental Championships in Lacombe, Alberta after an extra ends with against team China. By Meredith McCullum Homan will face Korea's Eunji Gim in the final on Saturday at 3pm MST. Gim's squad were champions of the event a year ago when they beat Japan's Satsuki Fujisawa 11-6 in the final. The bronze medal game will feature China's Rui Wang against Japan's Miyu Ueno and will take place Friday night at 7pm MST. In the semi Homan faced China's Rui Wang in a tight battle that ended with a score of 6-5 in extra ends. Homan's squad - lead Sarah Wilkes, second Emma Miskew and third Tracy Fleury - didn't have their strongest performance in the semifinal match, but they made shots when it counted to get the job done and earn Canada a chance at the championship. Homan holds a perfect 7-0 record in the event so far, including an 8-2 victory over Gim when the teams faced each other in round robin play. Canada's best finish since the commencement of the Pan Continental Championship was a bronze medal in the events debut year in 2022. Kerri Einarson was team Canada at the event the past two years due to her wins at the Scottie's in 2022 and 2023. The final can be streamed at curlingchannel.tv and scores will be updated at curlingzone.com as the event continues. |
