Hasselborg Bounces Back with B-side Win
Sweden's Anna Hasselborg (photo: Anil Mungal, GSOC) won 7-4 over Winnipeg's Chelsea Carey on Wednesday evening. Hasselborg with Sara McManus, Johanna Heldin and Sofia Mabergs stole single points in the first two end to jump out to an early lead. Carey, with Karlee Burgess, Emily Zacharias and Lauren Lenentine scored a single in the third end, then stole the fourth and fifth ends to take a 3-2 lead. Hasselborg dealt the big blow in the sixth end, scoring four points to take a 6-3 lead. Carey got a single point back in the seventh end, but it was not enough as Hasselborg add a single point in the eighth end for the 7-4 win. The win was Hasselborg's sixteenth on the season against three losses. Hasselborg, like Homan started the season with 13 straight wins to open the season. Hasselborg went undefeated to win the Oslo Cup in Norway in September, then swept Isabella Wrana in four straight in their best-of-seven series to determine who would represent Sweden at the European Championships in Lohja, Finland. Hasselborg reached the final of the Womens Masters Basel, dropping an 8-3 decision to Silvana Tirinzoni. Hasselborg dropped their opening game on Tuesday to Japan's Satsuki Fujisawa to drop into the B-event in the HearingLife Tour Challenge. Hasselborg next faces Canada's Kerri Einarson on Thursday in round two of the B-event, where a win will would advance the team into the B-Qualifiers. |
