 The stage is set for an exciting final at the Shorty Jenkins Curling Classic as Rachel Homan (Photo: Andrew Klaver/Curling Canada) takes on Silvana Tirinzoni in a rematch of the 2024 World Women's final. By Meredith McCullum Rachel Homan's squad out of Ottawa Ontario are the defending Canadian and World Champion; Silvana Tirinzoni's rink out of Aarau, Switzerland are the reigning World Silver medalists and World Champion the four previous years. Both teams are highly decorated and sit first and second in World Curling rankings entering the season and the matchup Sunday afternoon at 12pm ET will be a first look at this classic matchup on the season. In the first semi final at the Shorty Jenkins Classic, Rachel Homan, with teammates Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew and Sarah Wilkes, faced Kayla Skrilik's team from Calgary Alberta. Homan started off slow, giving up a steal of one in the first end. They would bounce back in the second end with a huge score of three and a steal in the third and went up 4-2 half way through the game. Homan started the second half of the game with a strong deuce, and a steal in six was enough for Skrilik to shake hands, giving Homan the 7-2 victory through six ends and a spot in Sunday's final. In the other semi final, Silvana Tirinzoni, with teammates Alina Paetz, Selina Witschonke and Carole Howald, edged out Japan's Satsuki Fujisawa in a tight 4-3 match. The teams traded single points back and forth for most of the game with the lone deuce coming from the Tirinzoni side in the fourth end. Fujisawa tied the game up in the seventh with a steal of one but Tirinzoni secured a point with hammer and their berth in the final Sunday afternoon. Coming into this matchup, Team Tirinzoni held a 5-1 record, their lone loss coming in a loss to Fujisawa in pool play. Homan and Tirninzoni will face off at noon ET on Sunday afternoon to determine the champion of the 2024 Shorty Jenkins Curling Classic.
