Hoesli Wins Oslo Cup

Switzerland's Marco Hoesli defeated Sweden's Niklas Edin 6-5 claiming the title for back to back seasons.

by Gerry Geurts

Hoeli calls the game while throwing third stones with brother Philipp Hoesli throwing fourth stones. Simon Gloor and Justin Hausherr round out the front end as all four players return from last year's title-winning team.

"After arriving in Oslo, we quickly picked up the good vibes again, " said skip Marco, following the win.

"Defending a title is a very good feeling."

Hoesli started with hammer due to their undefeated record coming into the final, but surrendered a steal to Edin in the first end.

Hoesli rebounded with two points in the second end to take their first lead, then forced Edin to a single point in the third end.

Hoesli scored a single point in the fourth end to take back the lead, though Edin flipped the scoreboard scoring two and re-taking the lead after five ends.

After Hoesli and Edin traded singles in the sixth and seventh ends, Hoesli flipped the scoreboard one last time, scoring two in the final end for a 6-5 win.

To advance to the championship game, Hoesli defeated Sweden's Fredrik Nyman in the semifinals while Edin won 5-4 over Germany's Marc Muskatewitz.

In the quarterfinals, Hoesli won 6-5 over Lukas Hostmaelingen of Norway, while Edin won 6-2 over Switzerland's Yves Stocker, Nyman won 10-5 over Magnus Ramsfjell and Muskatewitz won 7-1 over Lukas Klima of Czechia.

"It's great to begin the season with a title, after working hard during summer, " added Hoesli.

"We hope to carry the momentum onwards into the next events."

Hoesli heads to Canada next, competing at the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard and the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic over the next two weekends.
